I never want to meet someone who dislikes South Park.

I love fun but it feels like almost all of the humor is based off of either breaking the fourth wall, referencing a stereotype, or being gross. With all the shit my brother's shown me, at least, it feels like a show made for idiots who want to think they're smart because "the show referenced the thing that is happening right now! they're so with it and totally dont just have one guy that browses twitter for an hour".
I at least respect the hustle to make the shit they do at such a fast pace even if it looks like shit, though.

You're talking about the newer seasons. The old ones had none of this.

Something about this game always felt top tier. Maybe it was the boxart which is kino, but being able to walk around and throw snowballs and shoot chickens from the show was just badass.

stick of truth also encapsulated the best of early south park, so there's that. things have really spiraled out of control since then with muh tegridy and muh randy mouthpiece that I dread to think what a third game would look like.

I grew up around people who watched it and it didn't seem all that great back then either. What's the appeal?

They've lost touch IMO. New episodes are so shit in comparison to the older ones. I think I really stopped liking them as soon as they started to do arching stories over the season.

That's not the reason at all, Iguana Entertainment was a well-respected team at the time thanks to the Turok games (dunno about Tantalus, the devs of Rally) and they had to travel constantly to were Matt and Trey lived to get their input, it was because Acclaim (the company behind all 3 games) rushed all 3 games to be ready as soon as possible because they really wanted to bank on its huge popularity at the time, these games were also made with just S1 and some of S2 in mind so there wasn't much content to exploit.
South Park 64 was made in 6 months to be ready for a christmas launch and they had to scrap a lot of the ideas they had for the game (including new multiplayer modes and other shit), hence why it's just a repetitive horde fps.
Rally was made in 7 months and the devs didn't had the time to do some tweaks to the game (they wanted to add online mp to the pc version but there was a glitch in the game that they couldn't fix in time so they had to scrap it):

this, it's hard to explain but the first season had a childlike innocence about them, despite the crude humor
then the show started to become too cynical and self-aware

I still consider them inexperienced. Turok ran like shit, and they were developing like 8 games at the same time in 1998.

Back then it was toilet/grossout humor. it's appeal was edgy humor and pushing to the limit in what was allowed to be broadcasted in television. Plots were always pretty outlandish but still amusing. Later seasons got better IMO, poking fun at every single thing up until they thought adding season-wide plots was a good idea and stopped being about schoolkids shittalking each other.

The fps was made by Iguana. You can kind of see the jumping mechanics ended up in Metroid Prime.

it ran better than goldeneye and had much bigger maps, even with the massive amount of fog it was a really impressive game at the time, Turok2 still has some of the most complex maps in a fps ever.
