it lacks soul. the enemies are very uninspired and incoherent and the level design just consists of throwing a bunch at you

It doesnt really have any more generic paper cutouts than doom honestly.

the difference is that doom's levels are actually well made and doesnt consist of spawning enemies behind you. and the humor just rips off duke nukem. basic weapons too. more effort went into the engine than anything else. it's a decent game but there's nothing great about it

I feel like people expected something from this game, and felt dissapointed when they've actually played it. None of my friends like it, and i really don't know why. You're a chad killing thousands upon thousands of monsters, not giving a single fuck, and sometimes getting a call from a phone booth.

Sam is much more wholesome and zany than Duke. Much more fun to play, too.

the point of the game is to be absolutely absurd and over the top. its a game that you had to play when it was new to get. the amount of things it throws at you is very impressive for its time, sure it might not have aged all too well, but its for people like me who like just the sheer scale of it.

If you havent figured out that sam is all about dodging projectiles in an open area i dont know why you even bother to play it, the closed level layouts in sam have always sucked in compared to the big empty spaces.

the game is just hold backwards and hold mouse 1 while you see the enemies attacks coming from a mile away. it gets old fast. the most likely way youll die is "lol you fell for the secret"

It's not about throwing a bunch at you, it's about throwing a bunch of carefully selected monsters in specific amounts with careful timing. There's much more thought required when creating monster hordes than it might look at first glance.

its very rare all you do is hold backwards and mouse 1. especially in the early sections of the game. there are enemy types specifically designed to fuck you in the ass if you do that, like the reptiloids with the tracking ball thing. if you actually have this take its because some internet e-celeb faggot retard told you to have it. you have not actually played any of them.

the "hold backwards and fire" take has been regurgitated so many times i know for sure it has spawned from some internet video game review man who thinks serious sam is "boring" because he never witnessed it when it first came out. it was an absolute technical marvel and is still impressive in some capacity today. once you really pay attention to the scale of things being thrown at you then it clicks, but that would mean they would have to play the game and thats too hard for literal redditors on Zig Forums so im not all that surprised.
