R07 and Uchikoshi have the same problem of writing so much worthless fluff that it really bogs down the story. I know people say "but the slice of life stuff sets the scene" and whatever, but they could cut those parts down by like 50% or more and not lose much at all.

I finished this recently. Can someone explain to me why Oryou couldn't just tell the villagers to stop ostracizing the Hojo family, especially the children now that the dam conflict had been settled? So much of the difficulty of the story seems to stem from Oryou not saying jack shit so Satoko can get help from other villagers. In matsuribayashi it's even stated that she doesn't think that they should still remain ostracized as enemies of the village. So why didn't she tell the villagers? Was it just nipponnese face-saving autism or what?
