Imagine if the switch could take wii u discs along with switch cartridges. How different would the switch’s lineup be since it couldn’t use wii u ports because they’d already be backwards compatible? Do you think the next nintendo console will have backwards compatibility?

just buy them again you fucking commie
3DS could play Game Boy cartridges?
The WiiU had a fucking controller screen how on earth could it have any notion of backwards compatibility ya mark.
No but but iirc the DS could.
...so that Fagtendo can send more money to niggers? No, I'll just pirate them instead.
>Nintendo thread
>Starts shitposting about Sony
Why?
I remember buying a DS and finding it strange that it couldn't play Gameboy games.
Okay. I guess I'm dumb for thinking the arrows across the handhelds meant BC went all the way back.
No, just GBA games.
I'm not sure if you're serious or baiting, but I assume you'll reply with
>it's OK when Nintendo does it
And go ahead. But first, point to the part of the message that says anything about BLM or donating to that terrorist group.
>it was almost 10 years before the gameboy had a backlit screen and color graphics
that sounds like hell
Yeah that was fucked up. It could play GBA but not Gameboy. Why? But a GBA could play Gameboy games lol.
The peak of backwards compatibility was the PS2. You got a new console that was also a DVD player (huge at the time) and you got to keep all of your PS1 games to play.
The gameboy color didnt have a backlit screen, the gameboy advance didn't either. That wasn't a thing until the SP
>it was almost 300,000 years before Homo sapiens had video games
We're lucky to be alive in these times, bros. Hundreds of thousands of years without vidya, a few decades of good vidya from 1985 to now, and then gaming outlawed by the communist thought police in 2024. We lived during the only truly based era of humanity.
>OG PS3 is a blu ray player AND has full back compat
how is the ps2 better than this
>sounds like hell
Nah, it wasn't that bad.
No, but you could buy them on eshop, I never really understood why nintendo consoles are so weird about their backwards compatibility
>Ds: can no longer play original game boy games, only game boy advance and ds games are good.
>Dsi/3ds: compatible with ds games of course, but now gba games can no longer be played, its especially weird in the 3ds’s case, because you technically can play gba games, but only a select few games and you have to had been apart pf the ambassador program, even though you could get game boy and game boy color games without any problem on the eshop
>Wii u: backwards compatible with the wii, and on the eshop, some every home console generation is on the eshop, besides the gamecube, even the fucking wii got on virtual console even though wii discs themselves are already backwards compatible.
The chart's confusing because it treats BC as something completely linear. DS had a classic game port, but 3DS removed it. Also doesn't account for GBC games having "forwards compatibility," since those games were still playable on the classic GB. Super Game Boy should also be perpendicular to the GBC since those are the games that took full advantage of it.
>no u
They probably could have designed the system around that, just have it so that the portable switch can interact with the tv like the wii u, sure it would have taken some extra time to make it work but it would mean less ports.
Because that don't mean shit to anybody who doesn't have an OG PS3.
Bump
Game Boy games ran on a different processor and the cartridges operated at a different voltage. It would have been more expensive that way.
no but you could inject them as cias. new 3DS XL is ultimate emulation machine for most consoles
>all of nintendo consoles up until 64
>all handhelds
>some PS1 games
PS3 was a "cheap" bluray player and fat PS3 could paly PS2 games. It's a shame they didn't continue. PSP also allowed you to emulate PS1 games too which was nice. PS4 and PS5 have none of that and their decline is evident. Now M$ is buying all their devs, they dropped the Vita/ignored their weeb fanbase. It's over for Sony.
Compared to the original ds/ds lite, is the dsi better or worse? The dsi does have no backwards compatibility with gba games, just as a note.
I love the PSP lol possibly my favourite handheld
PSP games
PS2 ports
PS1 Emulation
GBA Emulation
SNES Emulation
NES Emulation
Sega/CD/32x/ Emulation
What a good handheld im tempted to pick up a Vita desu.
Better. The screen is better and the buttons are more responsive.
You can even hack it for free these days.
DSI is probably worse I have one and I think its better for DS games and there arent many DSI games. New 3DS is probably nintendos best handheld offering, incl Switch 90% of the games on it I have have played already on PC.
>The peak of backwards compatibility was the PS2.
Nah, the original PS3 was the peak of backwards compatibility. It could play PS3, PS2 and PS1 games and you also got a Blu-ray player (that could also play DVDs. It also had a fucking SD and Memory Stick card reader for some reason) and if you used the OtherOS feature (before Sony gimped the system by removing it), you could also run games in Linux ( like all five of them)
Then they basically threw backwards compatibility out of the window with the Slim and Superslim models (because the original PS3 had both its own Cell CPU and the PS2's Emotion Engine CPU for backwards compatibility and that shit ain't Cheap and Don't wanted to sell a version of the PS3 that you didn't need to sell a kidney or remortgage your home to afford). Although you can still play PS1 games on any PS3 system (probably because it was being emulated instead of relying on original hardware like with the PS2).
At least the PS5 will support some PS5 games but now Xbox is the modern king of backwards compatibility with the XB1 playing some 360 and original Xbox games and the series X will probably also support those as well as Xbox One games.
>At least the PS5 will support some PS4 games
It's no wonder that thing was 599 US Dollars with all the shit they threw into it.
