I kinda feel bad for Tabata at times. True, XV is shit (it was my least favourite FF that I've played until VII Remake came out) but I honestly don't think there was anything that could be done to salvage the shitshow that was the transition from Versus XIII, which itself was already a bit of a mess. It had some good elements, like the brotherhood between the cast, Ardyn and some nice lore but ultimately XV will be remembered as one of the biggest disappointments of this gen
