What's the appeal besides combo autism?
This game is like the awkward middle child of the series both 3 and 5 do literally everything better

It has AI better than both 3 and 5. One of the best if not the best boss in the series, Credo. Very nice visuals. Varied environments and levels with good elevation. Solid BP with annoying enemies reduced to minimum. Very slick visual effects. Some of the animations are still better than 5, just look at Nero's buster animations. Snappy and responsive controls better than both 5 and 3.

Its a good game just half finished.

The gameplay is snappier in this than in 5. 5 has that modern-game feel where everything is over animated and so it feels slower. This game played exactly like 3 but better. Movement is very quick and responsive. Autismos love the glitchy tech with royal guard and the airborne "inertia", or whatever they call it, too.

I miss the anime-ish feel of 4. 5 makes me want to puke, this is Dante?!

What exactly is happening in that webm?

I'm not a combo austist but I did have a ton of fun playing DMC 4. Being able to play as multiple characters is fun too. I did get all the achievements and did every mode. I beat DMC 5 but I still haven't got around to beating it on all difficulties and bloody place. I like DMC 5 but I just feel oddly slow playing the game compared to DMC 4. I also wish you could play as Lady since she was my favorite in DMC 4.

Using a trainer that allows friendly damage which makes your own attacks hurt you.

I hate this mentality that a game is invalid if it's been "done better" by other games. How about you just play through it and enjoy it? You don't have to pour ten billion hours into it but it's more content to experience.

The best thing about DMC4 is the angelo enemies, it's a shame that the ones in DMC5 are less mobile and have much simpler group AI.

It has better setting variation for its levels (forests, castles, snow etc.) then every other game in the series but that positive is ruined by the actual level design being bad and forcing you to literally spend half of the game going through those same levels again

Variation isn't automatically better, DMC4 having a mish-mash of random settings adds to its rushed feel, it comes off as generic kitchen sink fantasy. The other games are a lot more coherent (outside of DMC2 of course which was an even bigger mess). I also think the forest looks pretty ugly.

Remember this Dante design? Dodged a bullet there for sure.

Speaking from tons of experience with every DMC, 4 feels the most responsive and has some really cool enemy and weapon specific tech that 3 and 5 don't. It's still worth fucking around in, and even though the campaign is terrible it still has Credo which is the best boss fight of all time.

I don't see how 5 is better than 4.

It's ironic how DMC4 had such a small budget and had to heavily cut corners, but then had three(3) pachinko games with all new content and animations. Even 4SE was done on a string shoe budget.
