This game is 15 years old

>this game is 15 years old
How the fuck did Valve do it? With everything including antialiasing all the way turned up at 4k, I'm still getting 200+ FPS at all times.

By patching the game later. The current graphics aren't the graphics from 15 years ago.

Day 1 Half Life 2 doesn't look that much different.

Forward rendering and baked light maps. Scales well with resolution.

pretty much all the lighting, particle effects and water has gotten updated

dumbass

it was just HDR and flashlight shadows.
thats it

I wish I could be a metrocop.

They also broke a lot of shit too. Stop spouting this lie already.

This
dumbass

Metro Cops are the house niggers of the Combine.

Yeah, but they get to do a lot of cool combine shit without having to become cyborgs and lose all their humanity.

It still baffles me that imperfect though it was, the Source engine still has a built-in shader for water effects and textures that can actually reflect everything accurately and wasn't just some early screen space reflection effect. It can even selectively render the world or all objects in the world. If Half-Life Alyx wasn't trying to optimize for VR it probably could/can do the same. And yet nowadays basically every triple-A game just cheaps out with SSR that fades at the edges, has blatant ghosting over most objects and results in looking so bad that most of the time it's better to simply turn it off.

Jesus fuck redditors admit that the series is garbage and ruined fps.

>Bottles rocket and shatter all over the place

>NOOO PLEASE ADMIT THAT HALF LIFE IS BAD YOU CANT LIKE THINGS I DONT LIKE NO!!!

you couldn't refute the criticism in the previous thread.

photo based textures

not every game needs to be quake. almost 30 years of seething, god damn

HL2 isn't garbage but I was always disappointed with how poorly it treated the Citadel, despite the beginning of the game immediately establishing it as a final destination and what was expected to be a grand dystopian gauntlet. It was extremely disappointing how we missed out on it in favor of airboat/car segments to pad the game out, reinforcing the structure of the entire game as going from point A to B to C, back to A with nothing really happening except random points of tension that make you redirect where you need to go. It's like they ran out of time.

zoom zoom

you take it for granted that that jank even exists

yes, you're aging and mad. i'm not even THAT young. i love those games too, believe it or not.

>Zig Forums now defends hl2

The game was very well optimised across a range of hardware.

I remember having one of those shitty VooDoo 3D cards back in 2004 and tried playing Doom 3 on it only to have missing textures, choppy framerates and sound cutting in and out. However when playing HL2, it ran flawlessly with everything there even for my peasant setup.

It's not a lie you retard, wtf, they moved the entire game onto at least one new major iteration of the source engine.

dumb zoomer

more like we had half life threads in peace without autistic tombers crying about it

Not anymore, because Alyx has for the most part seemed to fix the whole "crate full of things makes the physics engine shit itself" to the point that you can use a crate as a sort of makeshift inventory.

>Water has reflections that actually reflect everything and don't require experimental AI infused hardware to make it happen

do you see the sheer lack of anything in the level around you? That's how

yes, progressing the groundwork that HL2 laid for it

so you admit the series is for zoomers?

they're good games for everyone. half life came out in 1998, ffs

No it isn't.

>half-life
>good games

Amateur trolling

Because they patched it, improved the optimization of the engine, improved the way steam delivered files so you weren't getting corrupted shit, and added features to source, as well as HL2 in particular.
Do you think it had VR capabilities at launch? No, man.
HL2 ran like dogshit at launch, and having to deal with steam's garbage to play it was a surefire way to make nearly anyone that played it (or tried to) it's first week fucking hated it.

i'm not, it just works out that way without even trying because you're an old seething autist

I like quake and doom just as much as any self respecting person with taste but Half Life has merits of its own and you're being a massive faggot.

Doom and Quake chads are laughing at you.

>There was a time when just running Steam in the background meant losing about 40% or more of your framerate even on high end hardware.

Zoomers have no idea how good they have it.

see

i love those games too. we should be friends. instead you want to be a pissy retard who is probably way too old to be a pissy retard by decades

Those are the graphics from 15 years ago. This is from Half-Life 2 (Source 2013).

Attached: test.png (1920x1080, 3.23M)

turns out it's not hard to make a war torn wasteland with little foliage look decent. especially since it's mostly just small self contained maps with tons of loading screens.

Textures and lighting. It's why Ocarina of Time still looks good.

fuck goldeneye fuck half life fuck cs fuck halo fuck cod fuck serious sam fuck nu doom

what the fuck do you want? literally just make quake over and over?

go play your animu gatcha games jack off to your waifu and shut the fuck up.

kek keep crying old man
