That's not exactly MK1's fault.
The producer from the first movie promoted himself to director, and then promoted everyone else below him up a level. Nobody knew what they were doing.

This urks me too. Liu Kang also says "Flawless Victory" when he beats Shang Tsung, even after getting beaten to the floor and even getting face slammed.

See when I was a kid I interpreted that fight like an actual MK match

Goro was perfectly done. The animatronic suit was excellent and though they couldn't do any crazy stunts with it the editing was good enough to cover that up during fights.
