I want to like this game, I really do. Every time I try to get back into it I've always given up during the Deku Palace. I can't grasp on how the game fully functions. I know you have to play song of reverse time or double time or whatever to slow time down to do everything, but it's so tedious. How do I play this game correctly?

What does this mean?

I feel like everything is pretty cryptic and what you do is trial and error even with Tatl's help.

You mean that you can't figure out the dungeon puzzles? Did you play Ocarina?

are you asking for help?

Owned it as a kid. Brother and I hated it. Despite generally loving darker games.
Tried playing it a couple of years ago, and it was a bit better, but still tedious. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of 3d zelda games in general.
I started playing ALttP yesterday. I think I'm up to where I quit last time (wizard sends you to a different dimension). Might continue - but honestly, it's a little bland.

Listen OP, one of the best tips especially for beginngers is whenever you set yourself up a shortcut and you near the end of day 2 you reset time
you always play the song of time to restart from the first day whenever you begin a new segment of a sidequest
and whenever you reset time you play the inverted song of time to slow it down

He likely means what you have to do for some of the side quests

there's like a million guides online. just follow one for a while and see if you can get to the point where you understand the game enough that you can figure things out on your own.

The Deku Palace is probably the weakest of the bunch, it still alright to at least for getting you into the game without being too confusing. There's no right way to play the game, you try to get through a quest or a mini-quest within a span of time, and if you don't you probably have to start over, there's no rush unless you are an autist and want to achieve every possible quest within the 3-day cycle, it really serves no purpose, they could've made something with that idea but yeah.
Remember to check your Bomber's Notebook if you are interested into doing quests and getting some items. Other than that just pay attention to characters on Clocktown and see where they go in the day, sometimes you'll need to catch them on a specific day and hour but it's not hard to keep up.

If you are just in the middle of an area don't think of doing the dungeon, just slow down time and use the 3 days to talk to NPCs and explore, sometimes you have to go back and talk to the NPCs you though you were done with, but this only happens with the ones that have an unique design to them so don't worry about those random dekus or gorons, remember that this game was made harder on purpose but also be aware that most things are resolved by just checking out every suspicious thing. Also if you shield as human link literally no enemy will ever hurt you so don't worry yet about those heart pieces.

This. All Zelda games have cryptic bullshit sequences gating progression in order to instill a fake sense of necessitated exploration until the millionth bang against the rock wall is the right one.

Like you're stuck at Deku Palace? I can't even imagine how you'd even figure out to bottle up the Deku Princess towards the end of the Swamp Temple.

Just use a guide
Onky a masochist would find MM fun without a guide

Slown down time and think time as when things happen not a limit.

If you're on day 2 and need to do something on Day 1 just reset time. I don't get how this mechanic is so hard for retards.

Holy fuck you are retarded

Is Zig Forums really full of this many casuals? I beat this game with almost all the side quests done when I was 9-10

Get the mask of truth from the swamp spider house and listen to the hints from gossip stones. They won't handhold but will point out questlines and other little tricks.

Yeah anything is possible when you have the free time and patience for reptitiveness of a child

Most people here are under 21, user. They watch people play games or play modern hallway shit.

So you admit you are a casual.

Yeah sure. Can't see a single reason why I wouldn't want to be.

1. most important rule is unless you're doing sidequests, always use the song of inverted time
gives you way more time to explore before the reset
2. never start a dungeon half way through a cycle
do everything you have to to get the necessary dungeon song, unlock the warp owl next to the dungeon, and immediately reset
combined with rule number 1, you will have more than enough time to finish the whole dungeon, this leads to
3. you do not have to redo the events leading up to a dungeon after you have the dungeon song
just warp right back to the entrance and get dungeoning
these will get you through the main portion of the game
as for sidequests, you have to wander around observing people's routines and filling in the notebook
as each entry gets filled, you'll have more directions on how to complete a specific sidequest
each row in the notebook is a separate sidequest

Maybe angry birds or candy crush would be more your style bro.

they don't use the bombers notebook correctly

if you don't like it then you don't like it, why try to force yourself to like a VIDEO GAME user?

they're childrens' games, user

Because reddit points you fucking retard.

does beating MM give you street cred these days?

Uh yes duh that's why he really really needs to like it. He has really been trying to like it. How else is he gonna feed himself?

Idk but as a kid MM was the first game I used a guide on to get all the masks because I got stuck on the stone tower temple and saw a section dedicated entirely to each mask... I was a fool to ruin some of it for me but I've since replayed with guide and it had been long enough to enjoy figuring things out still.

I can't imagine playing a game I didn't like for fake internet points. I also don't go to reddit or talk to people about games I beat.

Mostly this, and I have half a mind to believe that OP's usual game habits have not included the "optimizations" that come naturally to you and I and are awarded by MM.

This isn't an attempt chastise OP, its just a truth that this is a minor "git gud" occuring for this instance.

also whoever wrote that incredibly in-depth gamefaqs guide... thank you. I printed all 40 whatever pages because the computer was in another room and we didn't have a laptop.
oh the days

its get better man just finish the game and get it off your backlog

good advice

Nah, thanks for the suggestion though.
