What the fuck am I doing wrong?
>walk 20 feet right
>map turns all red, cant mine any of the rock
>eventually die to infinitely respawning monsters that do loads of damage
>walk 20 feet left
>same situation
>decide to go into the one cave ive found that isnt in these red areas
>get pretty far down despite barely finding any ore
>something that looks like a atronach comes flying up under me, passes through the rocks and kills me in 1 shot
>you were killed by granite something
>now its nighttime and i need to stand in my house with this jeffrey dude for 10 minutes or so
I thought this would be nice, easy and relaxing like fucking Minecraft in 2D but apparently not.
What the fuck am I doing wrong?

Well you see OP, your problem was coming in expecting minecraft
Hint: its not minecraft
dig downward you fucking idiot, i hope you didn't start on Master
>having a granite biome that close to the surface
and post seed while you're at it
>passes through the rocks
lmaoooooooooooooo outdated pasta
it totally is minecraft
do they not pass through rocks anymore? that's fucking awesome, i hated those guys because of that
I mean the parallels are prettty obvious.
I have been digging fucking down theres nothing fucking there except for that one cave. I'd give you my seed but I doubt it works since I'm trying it on Xbox because gamepass gibes freegaems.
>pasta
Nar.
Dig straight down, that is literally the best strategy and the first thing every Terraria vet does
the start is one of the hardest part
just explore the caves and look for chests and try to craft armor with the ores
you can also make a different map if you cant explore anywhere
Terraria is a combat-heavy pseudoRPG with resource collection, it's not even close to Minecraft. In Minecraft bosses give optional trinkets and enemies give mildly useful items, in Terraria fighting bosses is the main factor of game progression.
Alright fine, I'll keep going. I was getting fucking pissed too because Jeff kept opening my door at night and letting zombies in so I've locked him in with blocks for now.
The tutorial didn't even fucking tell me how to make a furnace but I can already see this game is a lot more complicated than you would think.
your best bet right know is to find 15 gems of a type so you can craft a grappling hook, this lets you reel yourself in to unreachable walls and ceilings
You can take any item with the Material tag to the Guide and ask him what you can make with it
Alternatively you can use the extremely massive wiki
I hope you made a bow with flaming arrows, you did make a bow with flaming arrows right OP?
buying one from the furry is faster desu
Squirrel Hook is kinda shit
Okay so I kept going down and I found 2 weird underground houses with chests. I got a ring that regens health and boots that make me run fast. I also found a crystal heart that my guy Jeff talks about.
Looks like down is the true way since sideways gets me murdered.
Don't really like how I used the ore I mined to make a pickaxe and it comes with 2 debuffs at nearly 20%. Is that just RNG?
yeah weapons get random modifiers
you can reforge them with an NPC later
Neat, your first priority now should be to at least increase your health higher than 200 but the max is 400(until wayyy later)
Also keep mining ore and looking for houses, and chug those damn potions you find
obvious bait is obvious
Yeah, debuffs are less likely but possible and you can reroll them later but your next job is to keep going and get the best metal (Gold/Platinum) and Life Crystals
You want to hit at least 200 HP, also you can increase your mana by crafting together Fallen Stars that drop en masse at night
By making a glass bottle (sand for glass at furnace) and placing it on a table you can craft among other things Spelunker Potions with
>Bottled Water
>Blinkroot (found underground in caves)
>Moonglow (found in the Jungle at night)
>Gold/Platinum Ore
The cost seems a little high but once you use one you'll understand why
A long vertical tunnel with rope is a huge asset. Also look into making houses.
Thanks guys.
Shut up retard, no one says that anymore unless they're a 13 year old Redditor.

Terraria is absurdly deep, use the Guide to your advantage or go diving on the wiki if you don't mind being spoiled.
Npc user
>and the first thing every Terraria vet does
lmao. fuck off and quit pretend you're anything but a zoomer shitter
The item bloat in this game has gotten ridiculous. Basically every .1 patch has been an entire expansion worth of content and new items. Be sure to loot every chest you come across and then mine it to loot it to your inventory. Then bring them back to your base and build an armory room to store them all. You can name each chest so organize by ore, herbs, trinkets, armor, weapons, etc. It quickly turns into a complete mess if you don't do this.
I quickly stopped doing that. If I find a chest I'll take any buff potions and money, and if I don't have the item then that. But if it's like another magic mirror or extractinator? Nah. I can make my own chests.
unmined chests will bait you in the future, better to get rid of them all
I leave all looted chests where they are. Imagine not having a strong enough memory to hold in your mind where you've been.
I have 300 hours in this game dude I have no idea what you're sperging about
It's never too early to start organizing your storage
It's SotN with building and digging mechanics.
Holy kek.
OP here again, I made some good progress and found this crazy minecart track that went for miles until I ended up in an ice cave with a blue chest, but when I went to go in the house like 4 "Granite Golems" appeared and slapped me silly. Think I'll give it a break for now and go get something to eat, but I'm definitely faring better now.
Not really. Eventually I just stop looking through chests regardless. Gold chest? I don't need anything in there. Ivy chest? Already got all the jungle stuff from those. I'm at the point where if a chest isn't a mimic or a biome mimic, I don't need to bother with it.
