Video game companies realized that paying actors extreme amounts of money is retarded when some random on Tumblr can do it for way less. A major part of the Voice Actors Union controversy was the laughable attempt to copyright their "iconic" voice and monopolize the market.
I'll never forget Laura Bailey trying to strongarm the BlazBlue team into paying her millions for her voice only for them to scrap the entire English dub and release Central Fiction in Japanese only. Not only did fans not give a shit, she indirectly caused everyone else on the English localization team to lose work and money. VAs can eat a dick.
