1-3 mandatory, 4 as a curiosity, completely ignore everything else that says Silent Hill on it.

Yes, now close this thread and don't read anything about SH until you've finished 1-3

Yeah. The first 3 are really good. The fourth game has issues but still has a bit of that old magic. Everything else is cover band bullshit although shattered memories at least does something different.

Somebody post the guide to getting the PS2 games running on PC. I just finished 1 a couple days ago and am already wanting to start 2.

You can either play 2 solo, 1 and 3 or 1-3-2 in that order

/thread

yes

I GOTCHU HOMIE

what are you
A POOPY?

Absolutely. They are legit some of the quintessential survival-horror classics, and truly fascinating experiences with lots of depth + gorgeous audiovisual presentations to boot.

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
DON'T use W10's own virtual disc app! It will not work.
DON'T install under C:\Program Files\ ! This can cause problems on W7-10.

Next, apply the Enhanced Edition mod's files into the installation directory.
Follow the SH2:EE homepage's instructions to the T, and you should be fine.

The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate, using ePSXe or PCSX-R.
For 3 & 4, check the Guide.

>Protips:
Play the games in release order, and don't play on Easy mode.
Multiple playthroughs per game is very recommended.
Lower the in-game Brightness, crank up volume.
Turning OFF flashlight helps a ton with stealth!

the town made him stupid

It's incredible how good Silent Hill 2 looks even when played on PS2 hardware. Some environments and characters models do a great job of holding up.

Is playing 1 necessary for 2s plot?

1 and 3 are connected. 2 and 4 are loosely connected.

Silent Hill titles are great testaments of the importance of good art-directing.

Play SH1 first.
Just do it. It's a FAR superior beginning, and essential game considering the ENTIRE SERIES' stories and lore.

Please don't become yet another SH2-only secondary. Those fags are irredeemable cringefests.

I actually liked Homecoming.

alright I'll play them both
truth is im going to main heather in DbD and I'd feel guilty having not play her games first

You are doing yourself a favor. While its true that SH2 is a masterpiece SH2fags refuse to understand that you need the background knowledge of SH1, shit wasnt explained at all in SH2 for a reason, because its a sequel. Without context everything happening in the town isnt far from lolmagic.

Attaboy.
SH1 is still the best game in the series if you ask me. 2 is a bit boring, but it's praise-worthy because of it's "mature themes" and killer OST; not that SH would ever had bad music.

SH2 gets really good towards the end, but the town is boring.

Lad's how would you do a Silent Hill sequel?
>Silent Hill5
Ash wakes up half buried in the cemetery of Silent Hill. Her memory hazy, she wanders the modernized city searching for a man. Her father? Husband? Brother? Son? She does not know, but some of the residents seem to, always too vague but disturbingly on point. As strange tornado sirens blare, she faints, only to wake up in the Other World. But not the grimy, red, industrial one we know. This one is a blue, brutalist place, where the cold hand of progress has warped reality.
Alvin wakes up in his childhood home of Silent Hill. He searches the town for a girl whose photograph he woke up with, and as he meets new, unfamilar faces, he wonders how despite being gone for almost 20 years, things seem to be unchanged. Then the familiar sound of sirens plays, and he finds the world around him warp into the familiar Other World we know of. But something about it seems off, the architecture doesn't quite connect correctly, and at times Alvin finds himself in locations that shouldn't be so near.
The two people's stories slowly converge, the two Silent Hills juxtaposed. One, the modernized, unfamiliar city with hints of the past buried beneath glass and steel, the other the same old mining town, yet feeling like a fuzzy memory. You then discover that Ash is the embodiment of Silent Hill, trapped in a human body by a new cult who wish to seal away the magic of the town. Alvin had come home to get some closure for his little sister's death, which he thought was an accident but was actually part of the new cult's sealing ritual. Ash's Silent Hill is a representation of both a girl's fear of large cities and the loss of her own identity, while Alvin's Silent Hill is a manifestation of guilt, for abandoning his home and his sister's memory.
Also the game serves as a metaphor on how the video game franchise lost its identity because of modernization

Correct.
I've played #2 over 30 times by now, and the start is easily the most sloggish stretch. Even some newbie players have lost interests because of the start alone.
If anything, SH1 aids SH2's experience, as you know that shit will hit the fan sooner or later, and thus have something to look forward to, all while proceeding forward with caution.

Well for once we now actually know that theres a new SH on the way that is an actual game and not a fucking pachinko. Rumors say 2 games but I dont want to jump in the hype wagon with that little information yet.

Silent Hill 1 and 3 always have that sense of dread present. 2 is a very melancholy game.

Kinda neato

>how would you do a Silent Hill sequel?
I would not.

4 is great fuck you

How does the PSN version of SH1 play on the PS3?

No. Keep your zoomer ass far away from it. You wouldn't appreciate it either way so why bother

Thats how I beat it. Seemed fine as I recall.

Not sure. Lots of horror tropes that originated with Silent Hill have become overplayed over the years, which may affect the enjoyment of anyone late to the party.

Amnesia killed horror.
