Were people really upset at him being replaced? The guy was always a weakpoint in a series that had very good voice acting
Were people really upset at him being replaced...
Yes.
Every single male character in every single video game ever should be voiced by Steve Blum. Every single female character in every single video game ever should be voiced by Laura Bailey.
Seems kind of dumb. I always hated Hayter's voice acting. The dude reminded of Bale's Batman, rather than a voice he just sounded like a guy putting on a voice
The thing is that he was the VA of Snake for every game until GZ. Not having him voice Snake/Big Boss is basically not having Charles to voice Mario. It's not right.
Zoomer
He was alright as Snake. I hated him as Big Boss.
How exactly does that make me a zoomer? I love pretty much all of the voice acting from MGS1 except for Hayter
Keifer did a good job with BB though. To me, he sounded more sinister. I could believe that his Snake would build nukes or enlist child soldiers
Defending konami directly is the new push.
>he just sounded like a guy putting on a voice
So you pretty much confirm he was the perfect match for Snake?
Who cares, him being replaced changed nothing since Snake had like 10 lines in the entire game.
Though it shows why that retard Kojima was fired. Why pay for an A lister if that particular character barely talks anyway?
How does that make him a perfect match?
I think he was only really good in 1
It was the perfect voice for the cheesy spy movie vibe
>Kiefer was the best VA for snake
>cut out 70% of his lines in MGSV because Kojima watched Drive
what a fucking hack
Capcom got rid of julia voth so nothing is sacred
The common argument is that he's supposed to be more like a player insert so a more silent approach works best
>Kiefer was the best VA for snake
For most of the game he sounds flat and bored out of his ass.
>Were people really upset at him being replaced?
Yes.
>The guy was always a weakpoint in a series that had very good voice acting
David Hayter was and still is the most iconic and popular voice actor in the MGS series because of the style/tone that he incorporated for Snake's character.
He was the most iconic/popular because he featured the most
>You're that ninja.
You know what would have been the perfect final Kojima ruse...
If Hayter had actually been hired for MGSV, and only voiced the original Big Boss in the motorcycle cutscene, nothing else.
Yeah he did sound very weird as big boss.
The downfall of MGS voice acting is on the person in charge of casting and direction, see MGS1 vs MGS2
>see MGS1 vs MGS2
What do you mean? MGS2 has pretty good voice acting. Solidus has one of the best voices in the series; though I would say the radio cast isn't as good as 1
>MGS
>good acting
You haven't played it
Solidus is Solidus, but listen to all the codec calls and you can see a huge difference in the way the characters deliver their lines. MGS1 felt very organic in how people speak in the west, MGS2 was like a dubbed anime.
The thing is Kojima wanted Big Boss and Venom to still sound like Snake. It’s why in japanese its still Akio and why when you do the nostalgia mission to MGS1 you have Kiefer saying Solid Snake’s lines.
So because of that it was pretty upsetting. Like I dont agree with Kojima so ideally I wouldn’t have Big Boss sound like Snake anyway. But in terms of Snake himself Hayter is iconic and he gave a lot to the franchise so it was shitty of Kojima to cast him aside so unceremoniously. He could have used him in the game somehow or at least acknowledged him on twitter but he didnt, Hayter was treated like this unwanted person scrubbed out of the old family photos. If Kojima had stayed at Konami, I guarantee Hayter would not be involved in any future projects even those that featured the original Solid Snake.
There was some kind of bad blood behind the scenes and Kiefer felt very miscast either way. It felt like as a fan something is missing, a bit like how the MGS main melody stopped being used because they got accused of plagiarism. I agree Hayters performance was on the decline but its just one of those small things to me that doesnt sit right and feels like a franchise going on too long and using its soul. Kind of like no 20th century fox fanfare before a Star Wars movie, its so tiny but so representative of what else was wrong.
His voice got more unnatural and gruff with each passing game until Peace Walker where he sounded like he had emphysema
But it makes sense...
I think he fits the tone and vibe of the series better. I was excited for Sutherland's performance initially but the rest of the game was still too silly for his more grounded take on Big Boss to feel right. Everyone else still had some pretty hammy dub voices.
Odd how in a series with such strong themes of honor, loyalty and camaraderie, the MGS fandom lacks such qualities.
He was good, but his later stuff is not good at all. Peaked in snake eater methinks
>Were people really upset at him being replaced
Only a small portion of fans and Hayter himself
He has soul, which your zoomer ass cannot comprehend.
Yeah this would have been legit kino, but Kojima was too busy sucking off Joosten
I think that had more to do with the script translation handling differences. And the game itself.
If you don't think David Hayter is the real snake then you aren't a real fan of the series. That voice is iconic.
There's a difference between tone/vibe and quality. Other characters with Zero were able to fit the tone while also being better quality
Like Zero*
>Zoomer
Again, I think almost all the voice acting in MGS1 was great
He was amazing in MGS1 where he absolutely nailed the american action hero sound while still sounding like a real human. He was also great as half-dead old man Snake in 4. He sounded way too cheesy in all the other games and should never have voiced Big Boss. Also his voice acting in Twin Snakes is a huge downgrade compared to his original performance, he literally sounds like a parody of himself.
