The knights that existed were by and laege fucking pricks. One if the prinary motivations for the crusades was to get all the knights being pricks in euripe and get them all to go be pricks somewhere else. Its the same with every society that had a warrior class: just look at feudal japan or modern day US Marines, same shit. The classes always have an honor code, but only a tiny minority ever do more than pay it lip service.

They are the combat companions you can form close bonds with, except they are girls and you can fuck them.
Some of them may be forced to fight by external circumstances which makes their struggle in craft they are not suited for more interesting.
