lack of compression
4k textures and cutscenes no one's going to see unless they blow that much money in the first place
downloading every single version of dialogue and text in different languages
and so on

They have uncompressed photos of my dick in them.

4k overkill textures and gigabytes of prerecorded cutscenes

and still to this day, no one can find it

note that compression isn't there because having to rapidly unpack files would have significant ramifications for optimization. also, many assets are in the game files multiple times for quicker loading due to how memory packages work.
consoles finally being built with SSDs will lower filesizes

Average size of a blu-ray movie is like what, 15gb? Most AAA games these days have at least 6-10 hours of "cinematic" fully voiced HD textured cutscenes, and those alone end up being 40+GB

- lack of compression
- multiple copies of assets
- multiple languages
- "DLC-On-Disc"
- canned/delayed content
- lack of competence

at least pre-rendered cutscenes are mostly dead now

i think you could cut max payne 3's install size down to a third by modding them out

Devs don't want you to remove their games so they can keep drip feeding you DLC and battle passes and shit.

This is the only correct post in the thread.

you act like games havnt all ways taken up a proportionally large size of storage for when it came out

installing only a portion of them and running the rest from the disk was always an option though

too bad optical disk are too slow now

it is only the beginning

you telling me as time goes on games get bigger just like the storage mediums do too? wow wee

>Storage mediums get bigger
>Internet speeds do not because ISPs are retarded

No, Dirt 2 is not bigger than Dirt 1.
Just heavier.

It did for me

DESU I'm replaying crysis 1 right now and it's kind of revolting on my 1440p screen.
Even the cutscene are in like 720p and are screentearing all over the place it's positively fucking awful

Game still looks ok, but those textures man, holy shit they're bad

>Living in america where you gotta pay 80 bucks a month for 10mbit connection with cap of 10gb a month, with upgrading to 100gb month for 100 extrq bucks

its not that bad every where

The worst part is ISPs have literal monopolies on certain areas of the US and there's no alternative to their bullshit and they know it

>Internet speeds do not because ISPs are retarded
You try figuring out how to transfer data faster than light speed, if you're not so retarded.

>giving ea money
Cancer

>game is 500gb
>gameplay is shit

Imagine bootlicking a megacorp like Verizon, COX, or Comcast, I'd have more respect for you if you were a willing cuckold honestly, and I think that's one of the lowest forms of human being.

Name One (1).

Huge souless maps

It does give some credence to the theory that publishers are fighting for hard drive space. Just imagine your average CoD/FIFA playing normalfag on a PS4 probably has the base model with the 500GB HD. Newer CoD games are upward of 100GBs in size that's over 1/5th (probably closer to 1/4th after DLC/updates) of your entire HDD space. People are going to leave a game installed just because they don't want to go through the entire install download again. Especially in Activision's case they have become notorious in recent years for only including a 200mb installer on retail console versions of their games. They are still paying for a disc to be manufactured so it makes so sense for them to do this besides artificially lengthen install times. Even worse if your on wi-fi like many people probably are which is throttled to hell on a PS4 because of shitty wi-fi hardware.

star citizen

Slop and waste. A simple 2D world 1-1 platformer in Unity will take 2-3 gigs.

Only 60 GB, try again.

It really depends where you live. I live in a relatively rural area and I get 100mbit down for less than that with no data cap. The problem is the cable companies are all in collusion with each other and don't cross lines so there is no competition creating a monopoly and they can fuck their customers because they have no choice. It just really depends how bad the ISP you happen to be stuck with is.

thx 4 the kek

or ps4 fags need to learn how to pop the drive out for a bigger one

>mmmh i'm kinda starved for shooter
>i guess i'll try this new free COD battle royale maybe that'll keep me busy for a few weeks
>90gb install

>Muh lack of compression

Do you have a single fact to back that up?

its not quite just that, its also that government has ruled that internet shouldnt be treated as communications or something. The amount of red tape a company would have to go through on order to build more lines is ridiculous for no real reason anymore.

cuz they arent 2d

The newest cod is 190gb on ps4 and will get larger with the latest update
With the way updating works on ps4 you need the filesize of the game free to do the update
So that's 380gb total and pretty much the entire base ps4s hdd

pop a 2tb hdd in nibba

consoles having bulldozer tier cpus, that's why
