>What am i in for?
wear the squeaky shoes when you get them

Why

It's more ugly than bad, really. Play it and see for yourself.
Do try the side game if you haven't, it's good stuff.

As long as you weren't one of the people that was eternally hyped for it, it's pretty fun. Decent replay value. Zangetsu mode sucks. When you get to where you're fighting the final boss and keep getting the bad end even though you've done everything you can, look up what Zangetsu means, then look at the background

cause they make squeaky noises when you kick dudes
it's tight

Bad?
People really enjoyed this game.

It's another kikestarted indie shitstain made by a washed up literally who from the nineties, what do you expect?

>When you get to where you're fighting the final boss and keep getting the bad end
Honestly fuck that, the most retarded shit I've ever seen.

The only people badmouthing the game are Hollow Knight fanboys, Bloodstained is frankly the best metroidvania yet.

Both this and Curse of the Moon are good games intended to scratch their respective itches. If you liked the GBA/DS Castlevanias then this is more of those. If you liked the NES Castlevanias then play Curse.

>What am I in for
An overly ambitious project to be giving to a literally newborn studio with fresh developers.

That being said, if you don't mind the artstyle its actually an alright game. More AoS than SotN.

I have mixed feelings about it. Once I figured it out, it made complete sense. Though I was pretty salty until that point.

I think I'm so used to getting spoonfed exactly what to do throughout any given game that it took a bit to remember how to think about it.

I'm also pretty sure that it was a whole lot easier for the Japs to figure out

Getting the swimming skill was honestly more bullshit imo. Though maybe after getting the true end of PoR, everything seems tame in my eyes.

I liked it, backed it on Kickstarter and wasnt disappointed

If you know japanese, sure. If you don't, you're shit out of luck. And plus, if you're stuck, you aren't going to randomly decide to look up the name of a weapon, you'll just look up how to get the good ending directly.

Why dont you just play it and find out for yourself instead of letting a bunch of random people tell you what to think?

It's not bad, it's pretty polished in gameplay terms, but it's just another sotn spawn, with different characters and story
Personally, I can't get enough of those, I replayed several times all the ds and gba castlevanias, but if you're burned out of the formula or just don't like it you will be dissapointed because it is more of exactly the same with a few new gimmicks here and there
8.5/10 in my book, on spot lenght and difficulty curve, almost 100% it in 20-25, hs, at least most important stuff

The ugly meme needs to stop. It was very ugly in beta but Wayforward improved the lighting and texture drastically for the full release

I had a lot of fun playing it! But also I wasn't following the dev cycle and also wasn't a backer. I think you'll find it serviceable enough. Pushing buttons is fun enough in this game and exploration is fun enough as well. I'd call it the standard for Metroidvanias. Not the ceiling, but certainly not the floor.

The game is fun as fuck but don't try and pretend that it doesn't look shit

Of all the throwback kickstarter games of older franchises we have gotten in recent years like Mighty Number 9 or Yooka-Laylee it's easily the best and least disappointing. Don't go in expecting Symphony of the Night 2 but it's still a good game.

Anybody beat the game with Zangetsu?
I felt his throwing knives are stronger than his katana.

On the item description of the weapon it says something about slaying the moon. And I noticed in the fight the moon was changing a bit, so I took some swings at it, but there is no feedback response to indicate it was doing anything. So I then went and tried it in the court yard area where you can also see the moon. I ran all over that castle trying to hit every moon I saw, only to look it up and find out I was right initially, but I simply didn't hit it enough. It was infuriating.

Have you looked at the conversation portraits flapping their mouths? It's atrocious.

i want to lick miriam's armpits

Is the Switch version really that bad performance wise?

The most soulful metroidvania ever with a shoestring budget.

Also wear the squeaky shoes and the helium mask when you get them.

If you're into Classicvania, play Curse of the Moon. Legitimately a better Castlevania 3 than Castlevania 3.

finished hard mode yesterday. great game but kinda easy. I guess nightmare pistol start is the true experience. I would have enjoyed a little bit more exploration.

It looks fucking disgusting to look at regardless.

castlevania should use a acceleration based movement system instead of the usual dash-style movement. there is a reason why quake movement is so much better than other games (like ut), same rules apply here. thats a hot take, my friendos.
