Not the heckin' developerinos noooo
>stolen keys
might as well just pirate it
I still don't understand why devs have boxed games anymore, especially ones with just a code inside. I guess its cool from a consumers perspective but it leads to all kinds of shit like this or used game trade
Some games can't be pirated.
if you arent gonna give the devs the money they deserve, the least you can do is pirate instead of giving money to a scumbag reseller
t.dev
because you can pirate them for free dumb dumb
the devs already got paid when the key was bought
Mainly for parents/loved ones who get it because they know the receiver is a gamer.
Even if you're completely selfish it's still a bad idea because you play the lottery of whether or not the key came from someone who stole a credit card. If it did and that shit gets caught, Steam will usually revoke the key when it gets the chargeback.
Easier and safer just to pirate it at that point.
It's a great value for online games, like fighting games or FPS.
The only time really is if you want to play a game on release and the keys are the same price or the preorder items make it worth the extra bit (extremely rare).
no they didnt. devs can give away keys too dummy
If it's an indie or just a small publisher game - either pirate it or buy it legitimately.
Zero fucks given about big company keys, go with the cheapest option, which is piracy or a key from russkie site.
Devs themselves say pirate the game instead of using key sellers

>G2A - Worse than Piracy
>There was recently some news about G2A, prompted by a tweet by Mike Rose of No More Robots. In a follow up tweet he said: Please, if you’re going to buy a game from G2A, just pirate it instead! Genuinely!.
>We have talked about the grey market resellers in some previous Friday Facts (FFF-145 and FFF-171), and our stance is pretty much the same as Mike, we would rather you pirate Factorio.
>We had a ton of chargeback and fraud issues in 2016 just after our Steam launch, with over 300 Steam keys of the game being purchased with stolen credit cards. With an average chargeback fee of about $20, we estimate the total amount of fees we paid because of chargebacks is about $6,600. We will be doing a deeper evaluation of our historic accounting records to get a more exact figure, but it doesn't matter so much now.

How often does this happen? I bought keys for Alien Isolation, MGS GZ and TPP and a few other things years ago, they're still working fine.
What are the best key sellers? Persona 4 is gonna have Denuvo but Codex is dead nowadays and I don't wanna spend my beer money except on, you know, beer.
When did Zig Forums become a whole bunch of moralfags? Back in the day nobody gave a shit about where someone got their vidya from.
Zig Forums also cares about jewry, and keysellers are basically just that: you're throwing your money to a complete stranger for a game key of the slightest offhand it won't work, on top of the risk of Steam having it revoked anyway. Even if you end up buying the game, you really want to pay for it again, even on sale?
NOOOO YOU HAVE TO GIVE YOUR MOENY TO GABEN HE'S THE LEADER OF THE PCMASTERRACE
>be dev
>find out a key batch are sold on G2A
>deactivate them all
>next day a bunch of retards are complaining their game was revoked on steam
>tell them its their fault for buying from a shady website
felt pretty good
What game faggot?
thats pretty funny but in a bad way
They won the case and were given 40k by G2A and G2A will no longer sell factorio
And how did you separate legit keys from g2a keys?
I think it's not Steam's decision to do it but the studio's, if they find fraudulent keys they CAN deactivate them but I think they're too scared because of possible backlash.
Honestly speaking, they should either revoke stolen keys or stop complaining about them, you can't do both if you know fraudulent keys are in circulation and are being redeemed.
All the accounts have IPs from India.
It's your money, do what you want with it.
They do revoke them. The issue is with the credit card chargeback fee the devs have to foot when the creditcard reports the activity as fraudulent.
Fair
if the devs don't want people to buy stolen keys for their overpriced indie shit they shouldve lowered the price
Most of the times I buy my games on their original platform but sometimes I just want to play a game for a weekend of such with some friends. That's the only moment I buy game keys (too often multiplayer don't work with pirated copies unless it's Doom eternal)
BTW I never had any revoke, I may just be lucky.
mainly because the keys are bought with stolen money being laundered. if you dont mind that go ahead
everyone should do the same then yes? thats interesting
Not sure exactly if normally its steam or the devs who are on the hook. For factorio its a unique situation since they keys were bought through the factorio website and redeemed on steam. If they were bought on steam directly perhaps steam would be hit with the chargeback and valve would have to do the legwork of suing.
If you get caught you are fucked. That said i got a few before, and i always buy keys for the shitty stores like uplay, origin, etc.
I doubt they get the chargeback fee if they are using platforms like Steam or Humble Widget for payment processing, the only case I know of where devs suffered from chargeback fees was when the Factorio devs used to sell keys directly on their website doing payment processing themselves, I think they use Humble Widget now so it's Humble Bundle Inc taking care of that to avoid headaches for developers.
I'm fairly sure it has more to do with where devs distribute their keys because keys don't just appear out of nowhere and Valve hammered down on third party sellers by having to gift games directly nowadays (you can't hold them in your inventory anymore) + region restrictions. Developers are still free to generate keys for their games for free for distribution on other platforms but they have to be careful on which platforms they choose to sell these on because those are usually the keys being traded on grey market sellers.
Ive used resellers like G2A, GMG, and Famatical for years and i have never had any problems. Just dont be retarded and buy from rated sellers.
you are a retard paying again for something they got for free
Well done
the ones being sold were from my emailed batches to certain youtubers/marketing. i never gave them permission to resell them. you can label each batch and see which batch each key is from
