-TOP TIER-
VII - Cliché choice, but overall I think it's a near perfect (or at least flawed) FF game, while I have (minor) problems with VI and IX. Plus Materia is the best ability system
VI - Not much to say, game is near perfect for reasons we all know and the cast it outstanding
IX - Similar praises I have for VI, but held back by very slow combat and rather bizarre final 1/3rd of the story
-HIGH TIER-
IV - Ideal in it's simplicity. What it lacks in side quests and customisation it makes up in having a great straightforward quest and very likable characters
XII - Love almost everything about it gameplay-wise, but troubled development makes the second half feel like it goes on for too long without much happening
V - Job System is excellent, but characters are not particularly engaging.
-MID TIER-
X - Great combat, good cast, shame about linear maps; sphere grid can be a bit frustrating
VIII - I'm just not fan of Junction, but I can easily see this game being top tier for someone who enjoys the system
III - Basically a primitive version of V. Effective, enjoyable, but not quite up there.
