The most misunderstood game in history.
I agree, this is the only MMO that actually came close to being fun.
FUCK JAGEX AND FUCK THE EVOLUTION OF COMBAT
OSRS is great and RS3 is pretty solid actually.
I have no fucking idea where to start in RS3 and I'll be damned if I'm paying for two subs. I'd rather play oldschool. Feels bad cause Rs3 looks good.
follow the achievement path thing, it gives you some solid goals
one membership is enough to play both games, but you cant login on both games simultaneously on the same account
Why is OSRS much more popular despite worse graphics and simpler mechanics
because OSRS is the GOAT afk game.
I've been playing Runescape casually on and off since 2003. I thought RS3 was a nice step forward and added a lot of fun new things to the game. I never quite got a round playing OSRS because of the sunken cost. But can some OSRS autists tell me why everyone hated RS3 so much? I didn't have the patience to follow all the drama back then.
rs3 is more afk tho
Eoc is gay, new artstyle is gay, and armadyl is now gay. I think you might be a little gay too
I played a lot of it but I couldn't tell you whats fun about it. It's just a simplistic grind.
>inb4 muh super hard bossing
It's mostly hard because of how clunky and laggy the game is. The mechanics are all simple as shit once you figure them out/read about them.
Nostalgia + much simpler and easier to get into game + less graphical intensity so more people can play
Because RuneScape 3 became a microtransaction infested pay to win game that is trying to get bywith having an entirely new player base they conjured up from scratch since everybody who liked RuneScape before quit because the games are basically nothing alike anymore.
Microtransactions and the game losing any semblance of challenge in the form of a long grind.
Even as a kid I was disappointed when they announced they were upgrading the graphics because I knew that meant slower updates and less content because it would take longer to add the nice graphics.
Nobody plays RS for the graphics. It's the core mechanics and regular weekly content updates (back when there was only classic) that kept everyone playing.
>Add p2w mechanics in the form of squeel
>Force through a combat overhaul nobody wanted
That's pretty much it. If they did not do either one of these things old school would have no reason to exist.
To be honest, the microtransactions in rs3 aren't that much worse than the microtransactions in other MMOs on the market.
See, this is exactly the kind of butthurt non argument you'd get in 2012. Why does this topic garner so much seeth?
I mean there are several non meme answers to your question too.
I'm still wondering why no other games copied OSRS system? Runescape is one of those few MMOs were you literally hop in and just go exploring, each skill unlocks new things for you to do from combat to accessing new places to using new equipment and completing. Quests are also stories of their own and some require you to co-ordinate with other players to complete them.
PvP was very open and part of the world, so you can just challenge anyone and take their shit. Or be nice and give back something. Housing in the game was nice too back in the early days of MMOs with parties, being able to fight other people's homes.
Why didn't the Runescape model take off? Why did WoW?
There are plenty of MMOs that copied RuneScape system like Albion. And on top of that, RuneScapes system was copied from Ultima. The simple fact of the matter is it's not a very profitable format anymore.
>Albion Online
Opinion discarded.
>the games are basically nothing alike anymore.
hyperbole from someone who has never played the game before t. maxed in osrs and just started playing rs3
>simple = bad
retard
>shitting on RuneScape
Only brainlets and normies would do such a retarded thing.
it's actually good it's just not what people expect when they think of "Runescape" so they hate it. that and the MTX are gay
I tried RS3 a few years ago and it was a confusing clusterfuck. Felt like a bunch of different MMOs mashed together without knowing what it wants to be.
I remember when they "upgraded" the classic RS into the abomination that it became later. One of the saddest days in my vidya life.
i only play RS3 instead of osrs because I don't want to lose my 15 year vet cape and all my holiday items from 2003-present. :(
Reminder that Jagex invited a bunch of SJW faggots that never played the game and asked them how to make the game more 'PC' which resulted in the Gypsy in Varrock having the gypsy in her name removed and all the Alis in Nardah had their names changed even though they had a lore reason for it which ended up breaking The Fued quest making it impossible to beat. Also they keep shoehorning in gay characters and even made one of the gods gay.
>massive amounts of bots
>fucking emblem farming bots on bh worlds
>gambling bots at the ge on every world
Jagex doesn't care. Why would they? Every bot with a membership is money in their pocket.
I'd play RS3 if it didn't have all the annoying microtransaction particle shit everywhere. I started an ironman on it a few years ago and actually enjoyed it.
if youre going to screech about that then at least dont lie about it. it was a single employee inside the company who wanted to do it (a white guy, surprise) and nobody stopped him
>Even made one of thhe gods gay
Armadyl always was gay. Couldn't you tell by all the trannies using his greatsword back in the day?
Tons of non-mtx items have particles too, like 15 year cape
i literally don't care even a little bit. you neckbeards are so tiresome. there's pages and pages and pages worth of writing in Runescape and you get triggered by two fags in the whole universe and a name change. talk about snowflakes lol
That guy was long gone from RS3 by the time they removed the alis
Don't get so triggered over shit that doesn't matter dude
So if anyone interested of this shit in 2020, i should tell you I've been visiting Jagex HQ a couple of months ago and it's confirmed they are releasing a new game. The twist is that it's gonna be a one button idle game for mobile. I'm not even kidding. Don't believe me, doesn't matter.
The whole development team is made out of leftist diverse trans subhumans so as far as where this company goes towards the future is down the toilet in my eyes.
Leveling combat in RS3 is fairly simple, EOC is mostly useless for about 70 combat levels so you can start off using Legacy combat and be just fine (Although you might want to use revolution for magic because revolution magic only uses one rune per non-skill auto-attack).
I started playing last week
It's really fun, don't care about your autism
So if anyone interested of this post in 2020, i should tell you I've been visiting user's mom's house a couple of months ago and it's confirmed she's releasing a new baby. The twist is that it's gonna be a nigger. I'm not even kidding. Don't believe me, doesn't matter. The whole family is made out of coal-burning niggerlovers so as far as where his post goes toward the future is down the toilet in my eyes.
my dad works for jamflex and he says you're full of shit
user here. Kek'd.
you can't even speak english and you expect me to believe Jagex invited you to their HQ?
but OSRS is literally just a long grind
English is not my mother tongue. Screencapped tho.
Runescape has great music, quests and world building, but the grindy gameplay is just too tiresome, tried getting into it recently but got bored after a few hours
Yarr nigger.
only respectable opinion so far
>hop in and just go exploring
Not really. OSRS is a min/maxed grindfest.
I'm not sure how this became the most peopular song from the game
I just did all the quests in rs3, it was a fun goal to get to master cape and the quests they have are the best in any mmo hands down. Hell, it has better quests than most single player games.
