Did anyone actually join the army because of that game though?

I dont know, but considering they made 9 games in the series then maybe.

Yes, I know lot dumb kids joining army because of COD.

The game is actually good MP.

I remember playing this game and cheating on the medical exam by looking the answers up online.
Or maybe it was in another game that looked extremely similar to this one, It's hard to remember because there were a lot of samey looking realistic shooters back then.

Only as long as the story and message of the game doesn't get fucked in the process.

>the enemy is always OPFOR
>your team is always the US Army
Shame that no one else ever adopted this.

The Special Forces missions were cool.

Is that Chinese military recruitment game any good? is in even available to foreigners?

>cheating on the medical exam
what? nigger that shit was easy. I passed on my first attempt.

The original AA was a fantastic game.

I'm still not sure as to how things work when you as a US soldier picks up an AK from OPFOR. Does the enemy team just see you as an OPFOR holding a M16 that can fire fully auto?

>blaming russians for something US did in that cod game was slimy as fuck

Fear had that too.

To be fair I was a kid and still learning english.

I honestly dont remember much of AA1. I remember playing it but but most of my memories are from Americas Army Special Forces. and it was the bomb. except for that frustrating stealth mission as SF training.

Why was bridge so popular?

no more sinister than 99% of the shit the US military does in general already. of all the things to complain about wrt US military this is one of the most trivial, imo. they literally send recruiters to your child's high school and lots of them straight up lie to teenagers.

AA was hard as fuck, if anything it showed that war wasn't cool...even swat was a easier ride

I think you have to be sensible about it. At the end of the day it's fiction and you can't really police it for the reason it 'might' make someone decide to join the army.

As another poster said the US army is much more sinister than stuff like that and really this is quite trivial in comparison. Don't really see why it's any worse than a TV ad.

I remember a couple of years ago army recruiters came to my campus and they had a copy of whatever the new CoD was at the time a few weeks before the game actually came out and they had a booth set up where people could play it. CoD is 50% game and 50% military recruitment advertisement

why use CoD when the US army already developed their own game series (and AA5 is currently being developed)

COD is bigger franchise. Delta force and full spectrum warriors are pretty much army recruitment tools.

>everyone else joins because of COD and Battlefield
>tfw I joined because I wanted to be like Naked Snake...
What a naive fool I was

Was this the game where you needed to pass the tests for each class before you could pick anything but rifleman? I think I remember a medical exam for medic and some kind of stealth movement mission for another class.

then why waste the money developing AA?

yes. you also needed to pass basic infantry tests IIRC but those were easy. all the tests were easy, except for that one final SF test.

No multiplayer map has come close to the perfection of SF hospital

IT FUCKING HAD EVERYTHING

I went to a few events in NYC to compete against people. Army represenitives quizzed us on a lot of things and gave out tons of free pizza. Ended up winning a nvidia gpu for 2nd place. I deff think some kids go scouted for tech jobs but I don't really believe that anyone who casually played this thought it would be like joining the army. Was a very cool game though until sometime around the post SF patches where the devs went way too crazy trying to do too many things. Weapon attatchments, custom gametypes for 1 or 2 specific maps, constant graphics overhauls. The original base game up until the SF update was solid even if it felt a bit janky at times. I really have no idea how good the network side of the game was since I was still in middle school at the time and stuff like that wasn't even talked about a lot. Just had fun playing.

>tfw you earned Airborne certification
>tfw you passed the test to play as a Medic

Because if you had ati gpus at launch they didn't all render the fog so you could shoot people who couldn't see you. Also it basically forced people to try and either use covering fire or smokes to advance. Rounds also tended to be quick and there was not a ton of cheeky spots to hide in. It was also one of the first maps out if I remember right.

>Passed all the SF tests qualifying you for the customized assault rifle.

I only remember weapons cache, bridge and hospital.

I personally don't care since nobody joins a military simply because of a video game. The most it can do is put the idea in your and you think about it as well as do research and analysis on the topic.

If a man joins because a game told him, then that man is a fucking idiot who should be used as machine gun fodder or to locate a sniper the old fashioned way. Same goes for someone who joins the military simply for college benefits since college was not going to help that bastard.

I wouldn't say I joined the Army because I played AA, but I will say I played it with my Dad from realease in 2002 (I was 12) until v 2.7 when I was 17. I did end up joining the military, but I was headed that way anyway.

Anyway, playing a game for 5 years with your dad is a great thing.

He was very proud of me for getting through SERES training without looking up help online or anything.

If a kid is dumb enough to enlist because of a video game, they deserve to be cannon fodder for Israel

Ah, the sweet sounds of my early teenager years.

One of the first maps. Like others have said it had quicker rounds but also showcased a lot of teamwork and skill. If you were a good shot with an M16 and were able to kill their sniper camping tower, you got a lot of praise.

>Did people join army because of X
>Yes I know people who joined because of Y
Fucking moron

Bridge (and SE)
Mountain Pass (and SE)
Hospital
Pipeline
Urban Assault
Village
Sandstorm
Radio Tower
Weapons Cache

God damn, the game had a lot of incredible maps.

I still remember the training.
>30 SECONDS!

Is it any different than movies and other commercials?
