There was never any. Shadowlands looks as soulless and by the books as possible. Wow, new zones, raids and dungeons, never saw that coming. Literally XIV tier with how formulaic it is.
The only thing new is the tower thing which could be neat but I have no faith in Blizzard to not fuck it up like they did with everything in BFA.
Covenants are nothing more than a continuation of the war campaign which was a continuation of the order halls which was a continuation of the garrison which still fucking taints this game all these years later. Plus, none of the covenant powers or anything matter since they're all going to be tossed out next expansion anyway. No point in getting excited for something you won't get to keep.
That's why stuff like new races and new classes go such a long way for hype, they aren't going to be deleted by the end and you'll get some longevity out of them. I get why no new race after all the allied races they've been adding but no new class is a terrible call.
