In the old days, video games were made by small teams of people with love. They were constantly challenging themselves and what mattered more than anything was fun. Video games were not made by 1000 people to appeal to every person on the planet like they are now.
But that's what indie games are? And modern indie games are far superior to old indie games. Do you think all that we play are shit AAA games? I wouldn't blame you, but that's just not true.
