Its pretty convoluted and doesn't really make sense.
In the beginning SDF takes over the rail guns defending Geneva and were attempting to blow up the control center for them before they got stopped and pushed back. The guy who took over the guns was supposed to die in the explosion and signal that the SDF fleet was all clear to drop in and finish the job.
After that though, SDF knows they failed to destroy the guns, so destroying the transponder shouldn't really do anything, but they all drop in instantly anyways so you can steal the olympus.

So mechanically it's quite good, movement isn't quite as good as Advanced Warfare but you can still easily punish shitters with double jumping and wall running, gunplay and weapon variety are excellent, different builds are viable, but from an MP perspective the average COD shitter doesn't like the kind of freedom of movement the futuristic COD's provided because if they were any good at run and gun shooters in the first place they'd be playing CS or BF. Single Player is a baffling mess, FTL technology exists but humanity is still confined to the solar system, I mean wtf, baddies are hilariously badly written, their motto is "Freedom is bad" or some dumb shit like that. Zombies is very entertaining and fun, overall if it's going cheap it's definitely worth a go

near as I can tell, FTL in IW works on some funny rules involving how long the ship can physically take the strain of being in FTL plus how well the pilot can keep the ship in the FTL "pocket". but yeah its a little weird.
