Bruh snarks aren't a gimmick, they're legit useful.
>that guy who only uses rail in Quake and only has 20% accuracy
>mines/laser mines
literally no one uses those
Gimmick weapons are the best part of any first person shooter. The standard Pistol/Shotgun/SMG/Explosive fare gets stale after a while. The Snarks are great fun to use. Especially in the fan remake.
I do, they're good. Especially if you trip the mine from far enough away that only the enemy takes damage.
Games with gimmick weapons usually have weapon bloat. I'll forget the gimmick exists for an hour and then I'll use them all at once then forget some more. I wish more FPS had less guns and more abilities, like instead of having two melee weapons just have one that you can charge up
Half-Life Deathmatch does use map interaction gimmicks in their maps so don't be surprised if people actually use tripmines
I would if the sniper mains would fuck off
In usual fps'es gimmick weapons have abysmal ammo economy, which often makes them unusable
I love games where entire arsenal is made up from whacky shit, like Painkiller or Unreal
Any other games like that?
multiplayer though. In the main game you don't get many snarks but in online battles you can go crazy with them.
As the last of a dying kind of non-simps FPS players, I can safely say I don't even touch games with this basedboy beta crap. COD was the first in line to introduce casual babby crap like that with it's killstreaks and what not and it's only been a steady downhill trend since. Soon we're just gonna have autobattle fps because of how lazy you all are

user... Those are called MOBAs and they have been the most popular videogame genre for close to a decade...
>opposing force multiplayer with everyone barnacle grabbing around the map
good times
These guys were awesome.
Damn straight. Fuck "tacticool." I'm into shooters for the unique experiences.
DO YOU SUCK DICKS?!

Its funny that Half Life 2 has several locked room base defense moments yet doesn't have mines.
They're kinda hard to use in singleplayer, as in, the aliens bumrush whatever but you usually don't need them for those, but for me the HECU and whatever while usually pursue me to the end of the world they stop shy of any tripmine so no fun allowed.
Snarks are cool though, you just need the MRE strat of rock or something to stand on.
Not sure if Tau Cannon counts but that's my absolute favorite HL gun and it sucks that HL2 restricted it to a fucking vehicle section
You can literally build your own staircase out of them. Why wouldn't you use them?
Duke Nukem's tripmines are useless in singleplayer though.
The Tau Cannon is functionally legit just a Battle Rifle that looks weird and shoots orange tracers
Not saying that's bad, Battle Rifles are fucking cool
Tau and Gluon absolutely count.
Never tried the alt fire, I take it? What battle rifle charges up a bullet to do more damage?
They were fun to use against the marines
>*plant*
>*breeeeeeeeeee*
>giant explosion followed by gibs a few seconds later
Forgetting Tau Cannon's charge and weird sideways knockback antics
I wish the Tau cannon's application was that it could shoot through walls like the introduction to the weapon implies.
user I...
You can totally ignore the Alt Fire, though. I never found it that useful myself since two shots can knock out a muhreen fine
Is that actually a thing? I swear I've tried that but never got a hit to register.
The problem with the Tau cannon is that it uses the same ammo as the far superior gluon gun, and I always tend to hoard ammo for that like a motherfucker
I mean, being completely honest I can't absolutely guarantee 100% because it's been a year of so since I last played, but I do remember trying that kind of shit since I was a warty faced chum, so I'm positive it's possible, maybe not through all walls but most stuff. That or the dementia is setting in already.
They were good in the first game. Then Black Mesa went mega gay by making the arm time for the trip mines insanely long and got rid of the ability to jump on them which was the most kino attribute of the weapon.
The alt fire shoots through walls; and yes, it works in Half-Life 2.
Weren't the mines patched at some time in the vanilla half life? Because I never could make it work after I found that.
If only I could remember other stuff as well as I remember vidya shit, but thanks for confirming it.
>It works in Half Life 2
No way, there was never really a moment that could be applied.
The Tau cannon absolutelly can go through walls with charge shoots, i recall killing friends in DM with it.
It does however have a deviance when penetrating walls if I recall.
>player gets stuck inside a snark
Who else here only uses rifles in shootan games and straight swords in melee games?
This seems to be a Half Life specific thread and others have talked about the mines in those games, but laser tripmines were a source of so many hours of entertainment in multiplayer 007: Nightfire
If they're fun to me, yeah.
