Should I get a Vita, a 3DS, a Switch or one of them retro handhelds people on youtube likes so much?

Vita has a huge leg up in my book because apparently you can play Doom/quake custom maps perfectly well

vita is garbage. has no games and is only good for ps1 and psp. switch emulation is trash, don't get memed into buying it for emulation. a "new" 3ds/2ds is the best cause you can play gba, snes, ds natively and 3ds library on top

i tried to play n64 and there constant slowdowns. also you can't tell me that gba emulation on switch and vita is even nearly as good as 3ds. if OP just wants to play retro shit and doesn't care about ps1 and psp then 3ds is the way to go

yes, the only reason why you'd get a switch over a 3ds if ALL you care about is emulation then n64 would be the only upside but even that doesn't run well. i'd personally still buy a switch because the switch library is good but if he only wants to emulate then it's not good. it might be in the future though, we'll see

It can pretty much easily run the entire Gameboy lineup plus DS lineup and 3DS lineup plus NES/SNES/Virtual Boy which makes up for the ultimate Nintendo emulation console

I have an RG350M, it's really nice. Regular RG350 is also good if you don't mind the d-pad placement and a hell of a lot cheaper. But I'd still recommend a hacked Vita as the best option unless you need something smaller to fit in your pocket.

If he wants Doom/Quake then Switch is by far the better option. It's got 4 (four) Doom source ports, quakespasm (Q1) and Yamagi (Quake 2) as well as Quake 3, Doom3 and Doom 64 EX (as well as having those officially ports of these on switch).

3ds has better library, build in ds backwards compatibility, and is easy as fuck to hack and pirate games with. Thr biggest upside is the ease of piracy of thr entire library, but the biggest downside is that scalpers are fucking the prices up so its kinda expensive. Try to fid a cheap new 3ds xl, if not then go with vita.

Phones are actually a decent option since the latest ones can emulate all the way up to Gamecube and Wii. The problem is that every single dedicated bluetooth controller for them fucking sucks in terms of build quality. Even the Flydigi Wee 2 which I see a lot of people praise isn't that great. Maybe the Razer Junglecat will finally be a good telescopic phone controller but have fun paying that extra $70 Razer tax on what should be a $30-40 device.

Not so fast. More modern fan content won't run so great. AD can chug even on a half decent pc. Last time I checked AD crashed on switch. I doubt it would even load on Vita.
