the state of mario RPG games
you either change the game completely making a part of the fanbase mad and ''cautiously optimistic''
or
you do the same thing over and over again with minor tweaks losing the interest of your fans and making the serie less interesting
The state of mario RPG games
Mario and Luigi died because there was an oversaturation
They had a decent release schedule up until Dream Team, and then they just spammed them every 2 years and they became less of a must buy. Doesn't help that the games just got worse after BiS and Paper Jam failed at key aspects of being a crossover.
it peaked at bowser inside story, after that it just became stale and the remakes were nothing mroe than remakes but with bowser jr. as extra. also, the ''3D models'' on the remakes looks worst than the originals
>Paper Jam ejected the paper characters (toads) of the cool and interesting paper world and into the mushroom kingdom for the 3rd time in the series.
I'd like to reverse that. Have Mario and Luigi be the fish out of water with Paper Mario as a guide.
I would not have made BiS + Bowser Jr. at all. Its a DS game that plays fine on the 3DS and visual tweeks and a boring mobile game for the same price is laughable.
Mario and Luigi died because they kept making 3DS games when the 3DS was on death's door.
M&L also just got worse. Bro moves just became more and more ridiculous and long as the games went on. They also released two remasters that don't really upgrade much if we're being honest, and the 3ds was dying. I am decently sure if they made a superstar saga/new title with modern visuals on the switch it would've done much better, it also would've competed with way less since the Switch just had less original titles than the ds lines
Mario and Luigi was fine, it was the remakes during the Switch Era that fucked up
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE PAPER JAM DIDN'T HAVE MY FANFICTION CROSSOVER NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
You guys really need to stop it with the autism. The game made arguably the best RPG based on the Standard Mario World and gave a bunch of characters personalities
>making a part of the fanbase mad and ''cautiously optimistic''
You fags are really upset about that word aren't you?
You do realize it's coined by people that are ready to drop the game but are giving it a chance instead of being stubborn jackasses
There was an easy fix.
>Make bro moves shorter
and
>DITCH THE FUCKING 3DS
The Switch was already out, why would anyone buy a 3DS REMAKE of a game you can already play on it?
Alphadream just got the retard attack, they could have still been alive if they didn't blow the sprite load on DT.
Paper Mario is just for someone else now. If you're a fan of the old ones, thete is zero stuff for you here, unless you only like the name Paper Mario and want to prove your brand loyalty to the big corp.
The only flaw with Paper Jam was it's Toad missions that go from great to fuck you.
People have their autism blind them by the fact that this game is a better example of Mario World Variety than the 2 shit games Tanabe attempted.
>and "cautiously optimistic"
Guess what the next buzzword will be when TOK gets it's gameplay revealed to be based
>you do the same thing over and over again with minor tweaks losing the interest of your fans and making the serie less interesting
This doesn't happen. Just look at Pokemon.
Bowser's inside story was the perfect culmination to the series and made the game a nice little trilogy.
Dream Team was really good too, and came out 4 years after Inside Story so it didn't feel rushed.
Then we got Paper Jam 2 years after that, which was terrible. Then 2 years after THAT they released the Superstar Saga remake, which was actually a pretty decent idea since it was the only one you couldn't play on the 3DS... but why the fuck would they not release the next remake, which came out IN 2018, on Switch? At that point there had been 3 games in 5 years, so burnout and a lack of desire for rehashed stuff killed the series.
It sucks since M+L is one of my favorite series but it's hard to imagine it coming back with AlphaDream gone. If they had skipped Paper Jam and put out the SS remake on the switch, we could have gotten another main entry in the series on the Switch.
I don't know why they couldn't just take the base concept and build off it with each new entry. M&L was fucked the moment they released M&L2, which has far less content than M&L1 and revolves around the concept of "HOLY SHIT GUYS, TWO SCREENS!!!!" And PM was fucked the moment they decided they were done with the formula after TTYD.
Mario RPGs are too gimmicky. The ones people like the most are simply the most straightforward ones.
partners in time was the best mario rpg of all and I'm tired of pretending it wasn't
>the ''3D models'' on the remakes looks worst than the originals
They're sprites.
>People pretending Dream Team is bad
>Let alone Paper Jam
Ya'll full of shit, Alphadream died because of the remakes in too short of a time span
Anyone who thinks that TOK is a return to form is fooling themselves. The "partners" are just following NPCs. The setting is still generic Mario papercraft, now with Origami. The writing is still paper-focused. The combat shows no signs of meaningful progression, and shows signs of the item based system of the last two games.
People mock the "Cautiously Optimistic" posting, because this looks like Sticker Star 3, and the only thing people can say to combat that is "Well, they MIGHT show something new that shakes things up, even though the game is coming out in less than two months." That's just plain delusional.
I'm almost convinced that, given the choice between a colorful roster of unique partners with no characterization at all, or a heavily character-driven story with a number of major NPC characters that join mario for the journey but do not participate in the battle system, half of the 'fans' of mario story would choose the partners out of spite at this point.
As long as combat has a purpose I will play it. I'm tired of waiting.
Just an FYI, Nintendo is probably going to drop something tommorrow morning, just because they cucked Sony last month.
Who knows, it could be gameplay trailer for TOK
>You can't have good gameplay and good characters.
>You have to pick one or the other.
But yes. If I have to choose. I'm taking gameplay over story. SPM has a fine story, but I can't be assed to play through it's tedious gameplay to get to it.
Both of those options have their pros and cons really.
First one has partners servicing the gameplay but not the story, and the second has partners servicing the story but not the gameplay.
Ideally you'd just fucking do both, but I'd probably go for gameplay over story.
Now that I think about it the first option is pretty much the Pixls from SPM.
You're not going to get good character development out of generic enemies they don't even bother to give names, by the way.
Dream Team was funny because it still had the best use of the Artstyle
>because this looks like Sticker Star 3
There's that word again TTYD fags love to use
>The "partners" are just following NPCs.
Bob-omb has been shown in multiple areas.
China leaked a newer build, we have reason to believe Toad can do something in fights.
>The setting is still generic Mario papercraft, now with Origami.
>The writing is still paper-focused.
Never an issue, just a Paper Meme you guys love to spam because SS and CS didn't have an actual story.
Context and Scenario is important. Color Splash had a lot of Scenarios and writing based on those scenario's.
>The combat shows no signs of meaningful progression, and shows signs of the item based system of the last two games.
I can understand wanting to wait for confirmation, but that's a straight up lie, we see "Weapons" and "Items" Separated for a reason user
>because this looks like Sticker Star 3
Consumable attacks and "THING" focused puzzles are what made them Sticker Star and Color Splash, stop being dillusional.
Best case scenario, this is a great game that can sit on the high tiers on it's own vein.
Your only "flaws" in this scenario is you jumping like a cry baby wojak whining about designs and Paper.
I know you fags didn't play Color Splash but it had some great settings that are set up scenario wise. We've had Haunted Hotels, A Circus, a Train etc, Origami King being an upgrade is going to be great in the long run
Literally none of the Mario & Luigi games use 3D models, even Dream Team which has 3D environments still uses sprites, the SuperStar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story remakes don't have ANY 3D outisde of the final boss.
I never said it was a return to form, it's taking elements from older games and be closer yet still unique but doesn't go straight in the trash.
Combat gets confirmed not useless and not resource based, your going to bitch about MUH DESIGNS, MUH PAPER WRITING I PRETEND IS BAD
Admit it
And when your proven wrong?
What if we do get Partners that fight?
What if the battle system is great?
What if the characters have personalities and great writing?
What then bitch? Will you concede or will you find other reasons to bitch faggot?
I agree with these, although I'm not fully convinced on partners actually participating in fights until we really see it.
Unless the next trailer comes out and we find out they fucked up and made battling worthless again etc, I think this game could be very good. Even then though, I'm not gonna stop wanting another Paper Mario like the first two because I love those games a lot. Even if it has to branch off into a "Mario Story" subseries or something so this style can keep existing for the new fans.
what about when the game releases and its mediocre trash? Will you keep seething on Zig Forums and defending it?
Dude, the amount of spritework that went into the 3DS games was insane, they do not use 3D models.
