Games like Pics in the thread

I really like these games for their charm, art style , music and characters. I like the mystery aspect but it doesn't have to be that necessarily.

The main thing i want is a nice art style, some charming characters/world and an overarching plot.

if i were to only play one Layton game which should it be?

I'd suggest starting with Curious Village then moving on chronologically if you liked it.

Also if anyone doesn't know, the Layton movie is available on youtube with official english dubs.

I could suggest point and click adventures, Secret of Monkey Island or King's Quest are a good comfy, aesthetic journey with fun characters, music and story.

i will check them out

Hope you like them! I have very fond memories of King's Quest V and VI, and Monkey Island is a golden classic.
Other recommendation I could give is "Monaco: What's Yours is Mine", it's a top-down perspective french game about doing heists, while you can pretty much go crazy and kill and alert everything around you, I find it very calming to try to be a ghost and rob everything without being noticed while the rain effects and piano music play in the background.

unwounds future is the best one, but there's kinda a "storyline" so I would just play them chronologically.

That... sounds beautiful

It truly is, definitely one of my favorite games.

I don't know about plot, but games from the Lovedelic "school" are huge on charm, themes and flavor but can have some pretty frustrating gameplay. You played any of them? You have interesting looking stuff like Moon Remix Adventure, which was announced to receive a Switch localization soon, Lack of Love for the Dreamcast (which is English-friendly but still a little cryptic if you want to befriend every creature) and UFO, a weird ass game about taking pictures of people to expose them as aliens.

The developers that made these games branched out into different places and nowadays they're doing their own thing and that's where it gets more accessible tho.
I recommend trying Little King's Story and the Tingle DS games, which are the best playing ones of the bunch. Chibi-Robo for GC and Contact for DS are also pretty nice. Yoshiro Kimura is also doing phone games I understand are good these days but I can't be arsed to try them.

If you're brave and want to try something more frustrating, try out Chulip for the PS2. It's kind of like Majora's Mask but about kissing enemies instead of killing them with your sword, and everything can kill you. No really, look it up. The soundtrack and themes are really good and the game can have some amazing atmosphere and feels if you grit your teeth through the tedium and frustration.

There's also some WEIRD ass shit like Endnesia which I wish I knew runes so I could try. Look at this shit:

thanks user, I will look into them and try them out

Seconding not only Monkey Island and King's Quest 5 and 6, but the remakes of 1-3 as well. 2 is kinda crappy but 3 is a pretty excellent remake, one of my favorite point and clicks. And if you don't mind old games, 4 is really fucking charming on its own. 6 would be the highlight. Games's not perfect, not at all, but there's some wonderful shit in that game.

2 and 5 are obtuse, not even the remake could fix 2 and instead bloated it with extra shit, but 5 is fucking hysterial with a friend. That game's so full of bullshit it's hilarious to play.

The holy trinity

Post your favorite Layton music.

seems like a good vid

story experience like pic related? Not necessarily the ending or gameplay ofc, but mostly just a world you can get lost in and have a ton of NPC backgrounds to explore and their interaction with each other

Ghost Trick
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (and its sequel Last Window: The Secret of Cape West)
