how do i get good at this game? i am a literal brainlet with strategy games

I don't know anything about the lore. Why are tomb kangz spooky skeletons in the first place

Total War requires next to no brain power. Just use the pause button if you're slow handed.

They had a mortuary cult, just like the ancient egyptians, were they would mummify themselves so that they could after their death rule again, they just didn't figure it out how to magic that.
Then Nagash, a prime asshole, came around, invented necromancy and made himself the biggest necromancer of all, but also resurrected all the mummified kings and shiet. Most of them weren't happy about their current state.

yeah but i don't know what i should be doing besides putting tanky guys in front of a bunch of archers and hoping the archers kill everything before all my infantry dies

Legend of Total War here

are there are non mummified tomb kangz? or are they all spoopy skellies

Ranged and magic is the best for doing damage and actually winning battles . Melee are basically just meat shields and are only there to protect your backline. Cavalry are shit but have uses. Get growth and walls in your first province before moving out.

Congratulations you can at least play hard difficulty now

that's pretty much all you need to do

The living version of the Tomb Kings were basically all dead by the time they started getting resurrected

>Ranged and magic is the best for doing damage and actually winning battles .

This is why Total War Warhammer is garbage. Archers shouldn't be machine guns on legs and battles shouldn't last 5 minutes.

>are there are non mummified tomb kangz?
Some got turned into vampires.

>mfw gobbo frontline

Learn unit counters, learn how armor and ap damage works, learn which are the best two or three spells from each lore and how to use them

wtf did I just post?

Game is good but has some major issues for sure. Higher difficulty is the most fun way to play for me but melee just doesnt stack up to the bonuses the AI gets. Also practically the only way to win a battle is army loss penalty which requires units that have high damage output like ranged units, artillery, and magic.

Is it a bad idea to diversify my army?
I'm playing vampire counts but trying to include a little of everything in my army just feels like shit.

Generally yes, the more diverse your armies in any RTS the weaker they get

Nothing wrong with having monsters sprinkled into your front line though, just need to understand what your win condition is

I usually just suicide in a couple of bats to keep artillery off me, keep zombies in front to soak archers, then just mash into everything with whatever is left.

ummmm sweetie diversity is strength

I mean hexwraiths are pretty cool

I about to give you some lore behind tomb king so spoiler warning if you care
Their use to be normal human even when king and priest start mummified themselves. The process allow them to capture their soul and keep it within their vessel. This doesn’t stop the rotting process so most become skeleton, while the few higher up priest might still have some flesh. Negash was a prince of one of the ruler who send to be a priest in the mortuary cult while his older brother raise to rule. But he really talented with magic and create advance necromancy. Negash eventually use his power to kill his brother and become the ruler of the tomb king. He basically bankrupt his kingdom to build his floating fuck off black pyramid. A bunch of tomb king band together and revolt, the mortuary cult that was subordinate to Negash also revolt and join the alliance. They start Imbuing soul of hero into the large powerful vessel to create the construct to fight against Negash. Negash then start bringing the dead back to life to create an army. This is different than the tomb king mortuary cult since they more like moving soul to vessel to become undead, while Negash more like creating undead without soul, which show why the vampire skeleton have different moving animation than the tomb king. 1/2

Or just get shaggoths

So the fight going badly for the tomb king and Negash about to activate a spell that will bring every single undead all over the kingdom to rise and become his army. One of the tomb king that was capture Negash got help by the skaven and given a blade to interrupt Negash spell that would also screw them over. He stab Negash and interrupting his big spell, cause a uncontrollable chain reaction that woken the other great tomb like Setra( who expected that he will only be waken up to a golden paradise where tomb king flourish and they found the secret to immortality, and not just skeletonfied) and also screw up what left of the tomb king civilization poison the land, making it so that non human subject can not survive in the tomb king land any more. Which left only a bunch of angry skeleton waken up to find their house trash and on fire. Which explain why the tomb king hate the vampire so damn much.2/2

People online told me they were shit so I ignored them

Shit, auto correct. I mean normal human subject can it survive the land

Archer aren't machineguns on legs.
It's a logical effect of archers vs melee infantry.
Melee infantry won't have more than 20~ units dealing damage at one time because it's in a formation and only the front-most units can deal damage. Whereas with an archer unit, assuming they're firing on another large unit or a blob of units, most if not all models will be dealing damage.

They aren't amazing arguably but they are cool

Not the guy you replied to but who the fuck taught you English grammar?

Also the fact that with the AI bonuses your melee units will always be worse than the enemy's

Just rambling at 5 in the morning

Archers shouldn't be this accurate nor damaging, especially when firing over other units.

Battles shouldn't last 5 min unless you're a 15 year old kid on ADHD meds. This isn't Starcraft.

WHO HERE READY FOR TROY and not a zoomer underage gay homo

More like ready for warhammer 3 and medieval 3 and empire 2

looks so bad CA want to give it away for free

Vampire Counts rely on their magic to win battles. Invocation of Nehek, Vanhels Danse Macabre, and Wind of Death are all your strongest tools. Lore of vampires is so strong that VC is balanced around that one lore.
If you want to make a diverse army you need a front line of either skeletons or grave guard, varghulfs/terrorgheists for damage dealing monsters and corpse carts/mortis engines to support the front line. For mobile units, Blood Knights and Vargheists are your best options. Blood Knights are best for anti-cav but Vargheists are very strong on siege battles.

Those people are dumb. They're not optimal, but they aren't a bad unit. The AI is really bad at dealing with ethereal units. VC is my most played factions and I can say from experience that spamming Cairn and Hexwraiths is strong. They need Vanhels to be cast on them to deal consistent damage, but they will get most of their health healed back from one cast of Invocation of Nehek which makes them very efficient for managing heals.

Dorfs need thunderbarges, shard dragons, runic golems, and the goblin hewer.
