Hollow Knight

God damn, why is this game so much harder than any other melee based metroidvania? Most of the basic enemies are really easy to fight but most of the bosses after you get some mobility upgrades, god damn.

I don't even think i'm halfway through the game. Currently just beat the soul sanctum area and then made my way to the dung defender who kicked my ass so much I quit, though partly that's because I have 2k geo idk where to spend and am an idiot traveling in unknown areas with no map

Unironically it becomes easier the more you play, I suggest farming Geo as much as you can to upgrade your sword, and play patiently for now until you get specific charms that allow you to play more aggressive. It may seem a little slow at first but thats really how most Metroidvanias are.. Again this game isn't for everyone but at least your giving it a fair try

I already upgraded it once, of course after I beat soul sanctum because i'm an idiot who didn't go left after the elevator at the beginning of city of tears before exploring the right but it says I need pale ore for the next upgrade and i'm not gonna look up a wiki to find out how.

idk if I should even bother beating this dung boss yet or be exploring this area at all

I recommend you too, after you defeat him you get access to a few more areas aswell as a new ability which will make exploring easier, Hes pretty difficult i recommend getting the long nail if you haven't already

>and i'm not gonna look up a wiki to find out how.
Good. Don't do this. Hollow Knight is a fantastic game and the worst thing you can possibly do is spoil yourself.

Can people stop pretending Hollow Knight is hard? It's easy and probably one of the worst metroidvania out there, overrated trash
Play La-Mulana or Rabi-Ribi and stop being a casual

Ah okay. It's been awhile since i've played and picked up the game again which had me going into the city of tears so i've kind of forgotten what areas I can't access yet in the previous explored areas.

(you)

You should go to Crystal Caverns, it's easier than the Dung Defender

And there's a pale ore in there, somewhere.

I'd have to find it first, still, I might as well kill dung defender if he gives me more movement abilities

It's pretty ass at first when you are a fucking little brick with no mobility

La-mulana's combat is fucking piss easy and because of how incredibly massive your health is you're not going to die before it gets restored again
There's also the gun which breaks boss battles harder than most shit in igavanias

Do you remember a cute little miner?
Also DD doesn't directly give you more movement, tho he does guard the path to a few

Btw sorry if I'm being too forward here, tell me to stop if you don't like it

Wrong

Cry me a river MaZe

Because it desperately wants to be what it thought Dark Souls was.
I love the game but god damn is it the most derivative uninspired shit ever.

>tfw really enjoy both HK and LM
Why are some autists so set in their hating ways that they can't just enjoy stuff but have to set up arbitrary divides

Yeah, I was a bit worried about the game at first and didn't feel like the first big boss fight vs the red girl was that hard but then I got the dash and it made things much better.

Actually yeah it's coming back to me now, I remember him.

I don't see how it's uninspired. It captures the atmosphere and open-ness of dark souls while still having it's own original world and style. It's definitely one of the best castlevanias i've played in terms of level design though I really hate how you're limited on pins for the map, feels really unnecessary.

oh come on its not THAT hard, at most a boss took me 5 tries, at MOST. the average was more around 1-2 tries.
the exception is the radiance, fuck the radiance, and the only reason I consider it the hardest boss is that you have to fight a different boss before actually getting to fight it, just ridiculous

Is La Mulana actually a fun game or is it just a meme? Also, how autistic do I have to be to enjoy it?

There is a bank at the station west of the Fungal Wastes where you can store a few thousand geo. And definitely try to get the map every time.

Play Valdis Story.
Dumb weeaaboo cumskull.

It's a great game and one of the best metroidvania out there but you are probably a fag if you are into HK so I recommend you to keep playing fag games instead

im so fucking excited

>I really hate how you're limited on pins for the map, feels really unnecessary.
Pins weren't even originally in the game, I was surprised to see them on a replay. But you have like 4 kinds and can place like 5 of each iirc? So that's 20 spots you can mark, plus all the other mapmarks of benches and stuff, should be enough imo

It's one of my top favourite games, but it's pretty autistic. You basically HAVE to keep extensive notes and maps for yourself or you will get lost/stuck. I enjoy that kind of thing and enjoy figuring out obtuse puzzles, but if you don't, you will hate it.

>though I really hate how you're limited on pins for the map, feels really unnecessary.

Or how you have to sit at a bench in order to see what progress you've made on your map.

>classic Metroidvania game: You explore, the map unfolds as you explore bit by bit
>HK: You explore, the map doesn't unfold. It only does so when you sit at a bench.

It made me get lost so many more times than I would have in other games.

It's pretty fun and you have to be pretty damn autistic too.
The puzzles are super unintuitive sometimes and you'll most likely get stuck several times unless you're some kind of genius.

Wrecking the knight each time is no harder than wrecking Genichiro every time you fight Isshin in Sekiro. It's insultingly easy.

It's fun if you are autisitc. It can at will get tedious and boring if you are not

>he doesn't knows

5 tries is hard in my book, especially considering most bosses give you time to heal, if you couldn't heal during the fight, it's hard as fuck.

I might've seen that already but forgot about it. Thanks.

I was trying to use them to mark areas with stuff that I clearly need some ability or item to get to or like an enemy or something I wanted to come back to but at least in this beginning of the game there's just a lot of stuff they tease but can't access.

You have to buy maps for that and desu, i'm okay with that, it makes new areas feel that much more mysterious and scary. I do find it annoying somethings when I get really deep but haven't found a bench or forgot my way back to one.

I thought it was neat that the little fella has to sit down to draw the map. It felt like the map was actually a map, and not a magical gameplay tool.
Protip: You can save and quit if you're far from a bench, and you'll load up at the last bench you rested at and update your map.

The plot is literally just dark souls with bugs and the gameplay is just a cookie cutter metroid type thing with a bunch of shit that just felt copy pasted from other games.
Like wow cool it's that enemy from metroid and practically the same vertical hallway so original.
Oh hey here's some super meatboy sawblades that don't fit in this game at all to go with our walljump that was also lifted straight from super meatboy.
That's fine and it's a great game but let's not pretend.
