The protagonist is not who we thought he was

>The protagonist is not who we thought he was.
>Trailers were filled with cutscenes not in the game.
>A good chunk of content was cut
>Boss battles are lackluster compared to previous game and includes a cheap unbeatable enemy.
>Most of the lore is revealed through audio logs.
>The story ends in an inconclusive matter with Liquid Snake stealing Metal Gear.
But enough about Metal Gear Solid 2.

>The protagonist is not who we thought he was.
You don't play as someone forcing their ideology in MGS. Big Boss is supposed to become evil for not letting people fight for what they believe in.
The moment you see the trailers spouting "YOU PLAY AS EVIL BIG BOSS", you should have doubted it.

And an entire chunk of the Big Shell, as well as two boss characters.

there's no audio logs in in mgs2 and the boss fights are great

>MGS2 is better than V could ever hope to be.
Debatable. I had more fun with V.
>Also the only things cut were cutscenes of Arsenal crashing into Manhattan because 9/11
The only thing of importance cut in V was the Kingdom of the Flies mission, which was always going to be DLC anyway.

>there's no audio logs in in mgs2
CODEC calls are more or less the same thing, since they're just characters providing infodumping.
>and the boss fights are great
They're lackluster compared to MGS1.

>A good chunk of content was cut
"Gray Fox but it's Chico", some fucking DLC and a third chapter that likely never made it past drafts not because they didn't have time but rather they didn't feel like writing it. There's not even code to show it's leftover title card in the chapter telop screen.

Want to know content that cut from the game that no one is talking about because it actually exists instead of being pure retarded speculation?
Some UI icons, emblems, a frisbee, some E3/TGS/Gamescom 2014 specific content, a few side ops, alternate routes to a few missions/side ops, a trigger for killing Skullface's men while on the Jeep with him, a few "Drivers' Ed" ops for Mother Base, and a few gameplay lines for Snake.
That's way worthwhile more talking about than MUH CHICO OF THE CHAPTER 3 WAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

>telop
The fuck is a telop?

>CODEC calls are more or less the same thing, since they're just characters providing infodumping.
You can miss (or don't give a fuck) all the audio logs, you can't miss the codec.

if MGS2 was released today it would be DESTROYED by Zig Forums

Vamp and Solidus are the only good fights. The rest are dogshit.

There he goes again. Even if your point about "forcing ideologies" in MGS is right, will you please stop trying to trick us into being unable to discuss anything but that?
I'm getting sick of your shit.

You can't miss the audio logs and they're not forced down your throat every 5 minutes. It's why they're superior to the shitty codecs.

MALE TO FEMALE

COPULATION

WOLBACHIA

Yeah, but OP was talking about MGS2. I always thought Chapter 3 was just a placeholder for the DLC anyway.
A blank screen with text.

Everyone knew Venom was medic from day one, but the Kojimatards didn't want to accept it.

Codec calls are part of the main story progression and they are dialogue scenes involving the player character.
2 has the best boss fights in the entire series.

Such bullshit. Olga, Fatman and the Ray fight are fucking excelllent.

>Fatman and the Ray fight are fucking excelllent.
Imagine having taste this bad.

The Codec is part of the main story, there's a lot of cutscene transitions into codec, not the same thing at all.

Ironically a lot of people trashed MGS2, especially the story (whining about how Kojima needed an editor), and now everyone is claiming that it was misunderstood masterpiece ahead of its time.

>and they are dialogue scenes involving the player character.
95% of the time they're boring, one sided exposition dumps. They're fucking awful.

MGS attracts a really fucking weirdly mentally ill portion of Zig Forums. Caramel, the "BiBo" guy, the guy who always posts Big Boss without his eyepatch (think it might be the same dude as BiBo) and now this schizo.

I can sort of see why MGS attracts it but it is so pathetic.

>peace walker
>supports communist revolution
>has a child soldier who actually goes into battle
>has a metal gear with nukes

>MGSV
>hur muh kids can't fight
>hur we gotta denuclearise
>get million billion bad guy points for creating a nuke

how was BB supposed to be a villain in any way in MGSV? Everything supposedly evil about him was already done in PW.

>waah there's too much info dumping in my military sci-fi movie game

Funny a lot of people say the twist was obvious now, but very few actually mentioned it before the game came out and even those that did (like PythonSelkan) still got things wrong.

Yes.

This is incorrect. People worked out that Venom Snake wasn't what he seemed from day one but other than one particular lunatic nobody guessed the GZ medic until the game leaked the week of release.

I remember at the time the prevailing theories in MGS threads were Grey Fox, Decoy Octopus and even Solidus.

>Everything supposedly evil about him was already done in PW.
Except becoming active instead of passive, turning to doing devious shit such as manipulating his most loyal men as using the child soldiers as a way to start more wars unlike how Chico was treated in PW.
And MGSV did exactly that.

Peace Walker was Big Boss's villain origin story, but it went over the head of brainlets who were expecting him to be a mustache-twirling villain who kills younglings.

And a lot of fan theories were better than the actual story. A lot of people saw the big medic twist coming. I knew it was confirmed when I started the game and was taken to a character creation screen.

*and using the child soldiers

also Fuck I didn't meant to post pic related.

I wanted to see how the hell he gets to be the leader of Foxhound after all that. I guess we will never know.

There was something odd about the Medic in Ground Zeroes when everyone noticed he was voiced by Kiefer Sutherland, but most people dismissed it as just a cheap reuse of the same actor

The nukes are the main point, really.

>And a lot of fan theories were better than the actual story.
Not really. A lot of fan theories were kinda stupid and unrealistic honestly. I will never get people whining about the fact that Venom was Gray Fox.

I do think Chico was planned to be a retconned version of Frank Jaeger as an attempt to undo Portable Ops, but Kojima then abandoned that idea.

*wasn't Gray Fox

Operation Paperclip was a thing that happened in real life, and other things similar. A previous enemy of the USA with incredible expertise and skill joining with us and therefore everything surrounding that history being smoothed out for the sake of strategic convenience is entirely within the boundsd of reasonability.

>The nukes are the main point, really.
Then why did MGSV's ending focus on Big Boss manipulating his most loyal man rather than some dribble on nuclear warheads?
Sociopaths ruining your lives and turning you into bootlickers are unironically 100% more of an issue than some nukes in the middle of nowhere.

Don't tell me I'm supposed to care for random people being the victim of some random hobo.
is that the message the game is encouraging?
