tell me about your first souls game experience
Tell me about your first souls game experience
>someone's first dark souls experience was DS2
what a terrible fate to play the worst game first
got demon's souls on Zig Forums's recommendation around 2012
I have a distinct memory of when I put down a sign in 3-1 trying to help people when THAT happened to me
I played DS1 on keyboard and mouse and used havel armor
the exact opposite actually, since you start from the worse it only gets better afterwards, think about it.
To be fair, it means it's all up from there. I think it would be worse to play everything else and try and play DS2 next.
IT STARTS WITH ONE-
good point I guess something decent came from 2 then
I died alot.
Why was she so stacked???
Started playing DS1, played for 5 hours, turned it off, never played again.
Friend convinced me to play 3. Played for 10 hours, turned it off, never played again.
Sony marketing convinced me to buy Bloodborne, played through it, plat it, don't actually like it at all, never want to see it again.
Heard good stuff about Demon's souls before Dark Souls was even announced. Loved it and still replay it from time to time. Haven't played the other ones
>randomly read an article on some hyped game by japs that nobody knows about
>medieval setting
>supposed to be really hard. article even said its probably never coming out in the west because games are getting easier and easier
>months pass without any news
>article pops up about how Demon's Souls has been released in Japan and its the best game ever made
>import asian version since it has english text
>literally the best game I ever played
>tell all my friends to play it
>they all think its shit or just dont care
>time passes
>Dark Souls comes out
>everyone is now a souls fan
fucking bandwagoners
Is it? I feel like someone starting with two, will only get used to many genre/franchise staples and thus playing 1 won't have the "oh shit this is amazing" effect anymore
Dark Souls, on PC, around I dunno, 4 years ago? It was definitely a throwback to the old 8-bit Nintendo era difficulty and top-notch gameplay. Love at first sight and all that.
But it was quickly superceded by Dark Souls 3. Superior in every way save for boss and map design, I've since spent over 2000 hours on DS3. A magical game. I hope Elden Ring can capture and improve on that level of build complexity and PvP. DS3 is easily on the top 3 best games I've ever played. And the other 2 spots, including almost every other spot in the top 10 are reserved for RPG's so it's a most unlikely title to get that high in my book.
yeah
i haven't played any souls games because the hnnng so difficult spam and the fanbase sperging out over anyone playing any way that isn't honrabru turned me off them.
GFWL dark souls 1, that was the shit, I was an unrelenting shithead invader
>hear from people Demon's souls was hard as fuck
>play it
>didn't find it hard
Fun game nonetheless.
I started with DS3 and had a lot of fun but couldn't figure out where to go so I just got into a fight with whatever came across my path.
It took me like an hour to stop fucking up because of the control scheme. Then I fought skeletons for another hour before I saw the stairs. A standard DS1 experience.
>DS1
It was a bad first experience, sure, but things got better when 2 came around and saved the franchise.
Were you GFWLSouls?
>post dark souls yet pre PC release
>Zig Forums going on and on about dark souls
>PC NEVER EVER
>looks like a p cool game
>decide to play demon's souls first
>fuck this is kinda punishing
>enamored with all the little quirks, messaging, invading, bloodstains, world tendency
>trouble with armored spider
>summon help
>phantom just goes to that little nook and just uses arrows
>don't really feel like I earned it
>restart
>self imposed no summoning rule
>took about a month to beat it
>instantly becomes my favorite game
>start dark souls
>it's cool but it's not demon's souls
>kinda just wish I was playing demon's souls
>play demon's souls again
>few months later return to darks souls and end up loving it
No, I didn't even bother changing my name from the retarded pre-generated GFWL handle they gave me when I installed it. The last thing I wanted was some bu
play at your own pace, dont listen to these tryhards "hardcore gaymer"
Soulsborne games aren't hard.
Excuse me. The last thing I wanted was some butt hurt faggot hunting me down on a forum because I dared to use an elemental weapon in anor londo
Based
Dirty fucking modders on Dark souls 1 who made weapons curse, twinkers in the Burg with DWGR and Chaos blade.
Good times.
That's what I said. But people kept insisting they were.
Got an import copy of Demon's Souls Black Phantom edition for cheap before the hype really blew up. Thought it was janky and annoying but also had a weird charm. Got stuck on False King Allant and finally beat him when Dark Souls was announced. Never expected it to all culminate in Bloodborne and Sekiro, two of my favourite games.
Despite being the second soulslike I played I actually liked it and it holds on many memories
>play it during the summer on potato pc
>stable 60fps but room is hot as fuck
>reach Iron Keep
Comfy
PTD on PC with m&kb
fucking hated it, thought it was a shitty janky game
pirated it on switch mostly out of curiosity and I actually really got into it this time around, not sure if it was just the m&kb making me hate it before
tried 2 on pc after and I’m not feeling it, maybe I’m just burned out
A "friend" told me that souls maps were randomly generated and ignored them until I played Bloodborne. I ended up playing all of them for more than 400h. They are one of the best coop experience I ever had with my wife.
I still don't know why he lied to me, but he's not my friend anymore.
authentic and souls pilled
Yeah this, Id completed DaS, DS and BB before playing DS2 and it honestly is such a drop in quality I got whiplash. Even DaS feels like a more considered game and my god there is some bullshit in that title.
Oh boy it's the thread where DS3 babies complain about the only title in the series where you can't just infinitely roll through everything and have to actually time your dodges with some level of precision.
>91
Cope eternally.
I don’t think anyone mentioned Sekiro so far, what are you even talking about?
saw some gameplay of Demon's on youtube, saw that it was Medieval fantasy, which is my absolute favorite theme in any media, and went ot my local gamestop to buy it. the first thing they said while to me is that it was harder to play than monster hunter. That is my first souls experience, before i even played the game
>play ds1
>get filtered by skeletons and I was too stupid to look up
>friend convinces me to play ds2
>finish it and go back and play ds1 and then des
that's it
good riddance
bought the game, went to the graveyard behind firelink and got killed 30 times by the skeletons, dropped the game for a year until a friend told me where to go, fun times
But that's not the issue with DS2. It's just a cut and paste of different assets and ideas that doesn't feel like a singular piece of work.
>best friend and everybody on the internet can't stop talking about dark souls
>get ds1
>kill gargoyles, get to blight town, get bored, never come back to it
>hear ds3 is faster and very different from ds1
>kill a couple of bosses, get to some castle, kill that weird group of cultists
>get bored and never come back to it.
Sekiro was more fun for me.
i even went on to get the platinum naturally
no dupes or trickery of any kind
Sekiro is not a souls game
the mindset that got me through that game and helped me enjoy it was "this is the best dark souls ripoff i have ever found on steam"
Eugh I mean DeS, not DaS. DS1 is still the best in the trilogy.
I went to the graveyard
It was my experience. Worked out great. It was by far the weakest but I had no expectations going in so I really enjoyed it. If I had played DS1 first I would not have enjoyed it nearly as much.
haha nice
DaS2. Made me like the game but wasn't a fan until I tried DaS3. Then I understood how garbage DaS2 is. Played older games after that and DaS1 became my favorite after that. DaS2 is legitimately worst Souls game but still way ahead of other games desu.
same here
graveyard and beyond
