I've also managed to beat WoF without much trouble and realised how fucked I am since I didn't do any preparations for Hard-mode. I'm tempted to get my old save world back and make hellevators to at least slow down crimson a little bit.

I was in your position, Crimson spreaded like crazy, I just kept trucking along with it until the end of the game, then I just converted the Crimson into the Hallow. I had ZERO preparation for the Hardmode because I didn't even know that was a thing and I accidentally killed the WoF my first try.
You just have to keep going.

those were prototypes for starting NPCs like merchant, demolitionist etc. Wanted to make them actual rooms in the commie block. Fuck, I even turned the top floor into a jungle garden for Dryad. Then 1.4 happened and I'm spreading them to their respective biomes with companions.

If you don't want to fight, then fish up lava crates. If you don't mind fighting, then go into the dungeon and just kill enemies and collect all the trash they drop, it tends to be worth a lot. If you want, truffle worms sell for 10g each, so catch 10 and that's a plat easily.

fishing crates were nerfed so only titanium and biome crates can have tier 3 hard mode ore
