The scraping spear has been removed, since it does nothing but make the game less fun for other players. In its place we've added the black lives matter warbanner. If you like buffing your friends before you take down kings this is the weapon for you!

The scraper counts that as a victory. He also counts the destruction of your armour as a victory, even if he dies.

There is literally no way the scraping spear is getting nerfed. It's an awful weapon and the effect is too slow to be relevant in pvp. The mystery is gone and the people who will buy this game have played enough souls to not be turtling retards.

Not to mention the ganking culture leads me believe you will invade into someone who had a brain, went pure black, and grabbed Miralda's axe before you even finished the vanguard.

The scraping spear actually does pretty good damage and is a decent weapon. The low-level gankers have to use an unupgraded version since otherwise you'd kill the host way too quickly.

His objective is to give you a bad time. If you pull the cable he'll count that as giving you a bad time and therefore a successful invasion. It's not about whether you think it counts or not, it's about the scraper since he's going in with a specific objective in mind and anything that ticks that box will make him happy.
