Is power REALLY the reason Switch doesn't get many 3rd party games, or are there deeper things and other reasons a part of it?

What does EA have to do with Switch?

EA is a 3rd party

The industry knows that a Nintendo with third party support would lead to the other platforms being completely obsolete, so they desperately try and prop up PlayStation and Xbox and generally refuse to support Nintendo consoles.

Basically all of the stories and narratives you’ve heard about Nintendo being hard to work with or the hardware being difficult to develop for are lies.

3rd parties can't get away with jewing Nintendo's audience like Nintendo can. They want to make nothing but a quick but on the system and leave it that way.

I mean how many third parties have released old ports on the system for outrageous prices that fail to sell because of it?

Since when is EA relevant on Switch? Sims? Lol

I would buy the newest sims game on the switch (assuming it isn't as bad with dlc as the sims 3)

It would help if nintendo consoles weren't always one generation behind in terms of power.

For me it's the opposite. I would rather play 3rd party games on my Switch than anywhere else and have double dipped Switch ports about a dozen times now.

>EA Argues that Switch owners would generally prefer to play their games elsewhere
Well yeah, it’s a portable system.

The power excuse was always bullshit.
Look at Nintendo's handhelds and all the support they got despite being shit hardware wise. Now we have the strongest handheld/console yet but now all of a sudden they decide they don't want to?

3rd party games don't sell because nintendo sales come from parents buying games for kids. They see Mario they know it's kid friendly, they buy it. Simple as.

Would it really? Wii U was the same power as PS3/360 and it still got skipped out on
>But next gen was coming next yea-
May i remind you how many PS3/360 games came out even after PS4 released? Remember how MGSV got a PS3 version? And not a Wii U version at all?

Meh, fuck EA, I'd rather not play any of their games regardless of platform because they've killed 2 studios that developed games I actually did enjoy.
But yeah I mostly play handhelds so whatever

Burnout Paradise comes out on Switch in 5 days. Oh and it costs more than the PS4/X1 versions did at launch and has absolutely nothing new added to it despite being a two year old port of a remaster of a game from 2008

I just wish i could buy a switch... sold out everywhere and no waitlist.

shitendo has very aggressive licensing contracts, since basically ever. Xbox and snoy are more... promiscuous.
Also, hardware. Developing for the xbox and playstation was very easy this last few years, them being basically the same console (AMD architecture) in a different box (next gen will also be the case). The shitch is similar but there are differences here and there (Nvidia architecture) and you need actual effort to have games run in the same way on different, less powerful hardware.

It is because they would have to do extra work to port it to the switch. Instead of letting the system compensate for their shitty code by forcing it to run by brute force.

Technically speaking, rushed release dates, outdated programming languages and bloated engines that speed up development are the reason that any game is inefficient or runs poorly. Technically speaking many of the effects that run today can be done more effectively if there wasn't so much overhead and bloated design on top of every major engine, but engines aren't designed per game anymore and not hardware specific either. There are tweaks enough to get them running at "acceptable/target rates" for that specific platform. It's why PC games have shit ports from time to time and why the spec requirements have flown out the fucking window. And it's why games that look like hot garbage still can't run on the Switch because apparently 6 GB of RAM isn't enough for games running at 720p. That's not to say that EVERY game could run on the switch, even with markedly efficient engines. But a whole lot more actually could. Games used to get a whole lot more power out of a whole lot less... but obsessions over superfluous features, post-processing effects and excessive resolutions (way beyond necessity) have caused sizes to become outrageous and caused engines to be built more generic, without platform specific efficiencies.

>outdated programming languages
>C++
lmao

Bro, C++ gets extremely bloated if you want to build anything even remotely large. It's efficient compared to every other language out there, but we need another language from the ground up that gets rid of the nonsense of c++ while maintaining the efficiency benefits (could even do better with techniques learned from theory).

>Switch doesn't get many 3rd party games

Nigger what? Switch gets loads of 3rd party games, every dev seems to want to port their games to the thing.

>Switch owners would rather buy games on other platforms instead of the Switch
>t. EA

The honeymoon period ended, the Switch lost its appeal, specially in the face of quarantine.

>Play downgraded games in Switch or get the full, working version on PC

Your bait is weak, work on it and come back

Most of those games are old as fuck user

EA is still butthurt about Origin on the Wii U.
For other companies it tends to hinge on power or bad business decisions, like Bandai Namco prioritizing a Jump Force port over something like Tekken or Soul Calibur.

To be fair they really haven’t been many new games to come out worth playing.

EA has their cock so far down sonys throat its not even funny. If sony lost EA as a partner the playstation brand would collapse. FACT.

they're a major 3rd party studio
why wouldn't they be relevant

>companies would rather put out games on newer systems with low player base
>higher development time
>bigger risk
>than do anything on Nintendo's system
I personally love the hate boner for nintendo. I too would rather my company go bankrupt than do the financially viable alternative just to fuck with nintendo

the problem is that the switch isn't a very good console, it's kinda clunky and underperforms in the jack of all trades kinda way. any time I use it I wish I was using something else, and EA's actually right on the nose for once.

There are indie devs having trouble getting their games to run at stable FPS on Switch. Of course it's performance.

I gotta admit those smaller Sony fanboy devs are funny after the Vita died and Sony started their censorship shit. Senran Kagura's creator is the funniest
>Sony is making us censor SK7, I think we should put it on Switch or PC
>NO I WANT IT ON PS4 AND ONLY ON PS4
>We sell this on boobs and Sony is making us take them out, its not financially via-
>YOU KNOW WHAT, FUCK YOU I'M LEAVING THIS COMPANY
>Leaves for Cygames and his next game is PS4 exclusive
and SK7 is still missing in action

Any company that works with Nintendo can only publish 5 NES games per year.
