how do you feel about active reload in games?
Personally I fucking hate it

it's gay

Really fucking dumb. If you're going to do gun mechanics do real ones.

I love it, come on it was nice add to shooting games.

Minor annoyance. Took a couple of hours to get used to, then never worried about it again thanks to muscle memory.

nobody wants to play reload minigames during online play you fucking faggot

I think they're neat in fighting games

hate that shit
it doesn't feel good when you hit it, it feels terrible when you don't, it is distracting me from gameplay
fucking retarded mechanic

been playing synthetik and it works really well. its satisfying to do and there are a lot of rewards for it.

The problem is that it was part of some shooters as kind of a bug that players exploited. Gears tried to encompass it directly into the game like Streetfighter did with combos and Tribes did with skiing.

i liked it alot, you all suck penor

It's the best but plebeians hate it. Synthetik perfected the mechanic.
Should be in more games.

i liked it in synthetik

Only game I've played with it is Starwars Battlefront 2 cause its on PS+ but I dont mind it. I find it pretty easy to manage though I can see how someone else might hate it.

I love it and shouting "Nice!" made it better

For weapons you shoot one at a time (sniper/shotgun/magnum) it's fucking cool as fuck, I like it and it helped elevate the skill ceiling in early GoW games. It was also a useful method to break standoffs, or punish someone for camping and waiting for you (ie. if someone is camping a corner and you know it you can pump a couple shells in the wall, active, then roll past the corner and win the trade).

For automatics, It's stupid because you either need to have an active mag to make it usable or if the gun is usable without it, you'll be melted by someone who shoots into a wall and actives before the gunfight.

I like it. Adds another thing you have to think about and it’s a risk that’s worth it. If you don’t like it, then just don’t use.

It's easy to do if you play the game for so long. Nioh has the same system for ki and not even once failed the prompt.

>adds more gameplay to your game
I like it

If done well it adds a lot of tension and/or satisfaction to the game. People who hate on it because it's too hard should probably stop playing video games and take up suicide.

I like that perk that gives you a speed boost for doing one right.

Wtf is active reload?

It was neat because sometimes if an enemy misses their AR they do an audio cue and you can exploit those vulnerable few seconds.

You know in Gears you only jam the weapon if you are trying for the bonus and miss? You can literally just reload like normal if you just wait. It's just an optional risk/reward system that can add another layer to the game.

idk about other games but in gears it just seemed redundant.
after about a day its basically just muscle memory and really adds no purpose when everyone else can do it just as fine, even in a fast situation.

one thing that i really didnt like is that it gave you extra damage bonus, which basically meant that before any fight, you would run around with a half empty clip and did an active reload when you engaged someone, which just seems like bad game design imo

It also helps that they have excellent sound and visual direction so each successful active reload sounds satisfying and screams "READY FOR ACTION".

It was perfect in Gears considering you'll most likely be reloading whilst in cover. It didn't take away from the combat, it just added a quick little minigame while the character was doing something mundane away from the action. In any other game, especially an FPS, this mechanic would fucking suck.

The only people that don't like it are the people who've been burned by it.

it also helps that the bar showing the active reload is in the middle of the screen rather than tucked off in a fucking corner somewhere

I tried to play gears of war 4 on PC and was absolutely stumped at how intuitive and frustrating it was. The character movement was like trudging through molasses, the weapons felt like piddly little typewriter plastic. Even the shotgun does nothing. The enemies just no sell any attack and when I tried to leave cover to run around they just dunk me for free. The controls had an agonizing half second delay from the consoleized 'hold space to do thing'.

The worst was the active reloads. On keyboard pressing r is the conditioned expected key. So you mentally get used to having a momentary instant of being unable to strafe right as you shift your finger from d to r to give it a tap. Since most weapons just reload automatically when the magazine is empty, you don't really even need to press r most of the time. Except in gears 4 the reload times are fairly long unless you do the active reloads. The tiny microscopic indicator bar is up in the very tippy top corner, and you have to watch it as the slider does a nonlinear speed up toward the sweet spot. This takes you out of the action for about a second and is nothing but frustrating.

I don't like it. Feels too much like a chore.

they fucking butchered the GoW franchise with 4 and 5 user, GoW is the only shooter I play on controller since otherwise it feels like trying to play darksouls on keyboard and mouse

i had no idea there were people out there who would get filtered by something as simple as active reload thanks for the keks

I don't feel like it really adds anything, but honestly most third-person shooters are so hands-off and mechanically bereft that I'll take any fucking complexity they can offer, just to distract myself from how boring the core gameplay is.

On top of that, there are about 4 control bindings that are totally unnecessary. You press e to interact with buttons, space to vault over walls, q to grab crates, f for some kind of melee grab, and hold v for a melee attack. But actually, none of these activities could happen simultaneously. There is no point where you would be standing in a spot where you could both perform a melee attack or grab a crate. So actually, these actions should all just be the same keybinding. It should just be space bar to grab, hit buttons, execute downed enemies, melee, etc. There's no reason to have a half dozen different keyboard commands for context-required interaction events.

And I think the biggest annoyance of all is that I would be willing to put up with active reload if i could just click left mouse during the reload animation. If I watched the animation or just got used to the timing and I could just click the same mouse button I use for shooting, I would forgive these cludgy controls. But no, you can't rebind it, it has to be the R key for reloading.

Generally I feel the same but the one instance I actually like it is nu-battlefront
>less out of place with energy weapons overheating
>actually serves a purpose by giving you the option of risking a slower reload for a short period of infinite ammo

Don’t play Gears with a keyboard

>carrying around 420 rounds

i wore out the button on my controller slamming it so hard because it was so satisfying when you timed it perfectly.

Well I don't own a controller and I somehow manage to play every other 3rd and 1st person shooter out there with no issue, so my solution was to uninstall the game in bewilderment and wonder in a perplexed daze just how terrible the devs would have to fuck up to make the game unbearable to even try to finish the first level.
