How can Zig Forums even compete?
>Le emotional surface string heart tugging moments.
Those aren't mature. They're soap operas for middle age housewives.
haha remember when Ellie acted really bigoted towards a guy who had been drinking and was rude to her for being a dyke but he apologised afterwards and she acted really shitty even though he made her steak sandwiches, when basic things such as bread and steak would be hard to come by in the zombieplant apocalypse?
hey, remember the zombieplant apocalypse? me neither
Problem with movies is they're 3 hours at best and those are the longest, a game like TLOU 2 is the equivalent of 2 or 3 TV show seasons in one game.
>bigot sandwiches
>when will TV grow up and show characters being brutally beaten and killed for no reason other than shock value
it's called game of thrones and its fucking shit because of it.
Movies have done it 100 years ago
Problem with the whole "growing up" and "games as art" discussion is that people's preconceptions of mature medium demand that for games to be valid they should resemble movies.
I mean way back when my mom walked past as I was playing mgs3 her high praise for gaming was how "movie-like" they are then nowadays.
I always wondered why mgs doesn't get as much shit as a movie game compared to stuff made today.
By the time mgs5 came out, people were whining there was little story and too much gameplay.
It's a generic fucking zombie story, jesus christ people have low standards
Because before people whined there was too much story and not enough gameplay in MGS 4, truth is MGS has good gameplay, while TLOU has shit gameplay and a even shittier story
The story is anything but mature
I Spit on Your Grave released like 40 years ago.
Artistically and narratively, this is still the peak of video games.
>when will films catch up with video games like The Last of Us Part II?
Is the gameplay good? I hate zombie games that grab the low hanging fruit of "Humans are so gay dude, they can't even get along during an apocalypse, isn't this drama so epic and interesting?" and "Zombies in a city is hard, so here's some zombies in a forest or countryside."
bigot sandwiches
Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

The real question is this: When will game journalists realize that they're bottom feeding scum and kill themselves?
I can't believe this is how journos think now. The absolute state of these ignorant fools and the degree of their arrogance.
To think in such a way you would have to know so little of classical literature. You would have to be raised in a hollyweird environment and bad TV shows, and social media, basically.
I pity these fuckers, but they're really destroying any attempt at making vidya evolve narratively... It's really pathetic.
If you hate all those things you will LOTHE this gayme.
its literally your standard third person stealth shooter like splinter cell conviction, it does nothing new or exciting in the genre.
>videogames
>tlou
But it's literally The Walking Dead, down to the lesbian couple and the "people are the real monsters" trope.
>violence bad!
>you bad!
Really deep, fresh, and interesting themes that the laughable film industry never dated to explore, and let's not even start to talk about the brilliant execution with intriguing and fascinating characters
The gameplay of MGS actually serves to enhance the movie-like experience by immersing you with direct control of a stealthy agent and the challenges it should come with. In essence, you are actually playing a role as an actor for Snake. It's the same with Death Stranding where you actually do have to face the same problems a real heavy duty deliveryman should come with like the center of balance and weight mechanics.
the problem with western movie games is that they think more cinematics and less gameplay are better for making them more movielike, but even the ones that work like MGS or DS have the issue of the gameplay probably not matching the cinematic parts very well, like Nathan Drake killing all those people when they keep wanting to imply he's not really that kind of person
Oh well, skip it is then.
I fucked up the last bit, I mean to say that games where there's enough gameplay to put you into the role of the main character just mess up on the cinematic part by not meshing well, not saying that MGS or DS were bad at that, although DS is still questionable.
Speaking to this train of thought, Stanley Parable actually has better gameplay than TLOU2 because the shape and length of the hallways and rooms are actually done to match the writing and time it takes the narrator to speak to what Stanley is doing and where he is, as well as reacting to his interactions with buttons and switches, A fucking 8 year old walking simulator has better gameplay and pacing than this triple-A shitshow.
If you want games to be more movie like, then make fucking movies. Stop pretending you care at all about making a game.
What I dont understand is why people think this is such a great story that it can genuinley compete with film.
Even the fucking Avengers movies have a more dramatically powerful story with well realized themes competently put together and executed in an entertaining way.
I mean, even any shitty run of the mill visual novel is written with about as much complexity as the last of us, the only difference is there isnt walking simulation filler to trick people into thinking its a real game and overhyping the story.
Even thats retarded because games have had stories for a fucking long time now. Any critic praising any video game story at this point for being groundbreaking probably think pac man came out 5 years ago.
God i'm one to speak because i'm not hardcore but why do games have to pander to normies now
all the good films are already made
>now
It literally already has.
It even has a genre.
It's call Cinema Brut, you fucking uncultured cumstain.
>last of us 2!
>its like the holocaust!!
>we mature yet? we important yet?!?
i hate this idiocy so much lol
