Why nobody's challenging Bethesda's monopoly on 1st person RPGs?
Why nobody's challenging Bethesda's monopoly on 1st person RPGs?
Because we already have enough clunky unfun shit
there's that deliverance game and cyberpunk and vampires
Because it obviously cost an absurd amount of money to make such a game and the only reason why Bethesda has been able to do it is because they're literally rehashing the exact same game on the same engine years after years.
because the only reason Bethesda even bothers making them is because they keep copy-pasting assets and code from the same shitty engine they've been using since Morrowind.
Skyrim isn't an RPG. It's an action adventure game
the only series I know of thats trying that is Deus Ex, and its a completely different setting and gameplay
Obsidian
because no one can beat TODD when it comes to marketing he's the fucking OG GOD invented marketing himself god i love todd
I wish someone would make an open world with vermintide combat and wave based dungeon raid quests.
upcoming vampire game, cyberpunk, outer worlds
people are trying
because no one can make an open world rpg like bethesda, even if it is dogshit nowadays
if someone tried, it would be dead and burried on arrival
If only. NV and PoE are going to end up being the peak of Obsidian’s output.
This
I mean, there's my pic coming up. And lets not forget about Deus Ex which gets a lot of recognition
But I don't really care. Far as i'm concerned Bethesda does it wrong as fuck and only retards like their Virtual Hiking Simulator 20XX shit. The Elder Scrolls games in particular even are one of the least enjoyable things i've ever played with all its wasted ass map and unmemorable space, dry roleplay characters and stupid fucking fetch quests that happen across all of its wasted ass and unmemorable map space.
I dare you simp
NANI
But that's what Japanese game devs do.
Yup, the classic Bethesda hate thread
>Muh Engine
>Muh Mods
>Muh played it for 5000 hours and it's now boring
>Muh Todd
>Why nobody's challenging Bethesda's monopoly on 1st person RPGs?
They already did, back in 2006. And game journalists shat on it for not being as good as Oblivion.
>4 hour action game
>they already did
Sir, might you perhaps be mentally impaired?
Because they do deserve a lot of criticism. People been complaining about the same exact problems, even between different games, for years and they've done nothing to fix them.
It doesn't help that they're creatively bankrupt. Starfield looks like a sort of fresh chance for them, but we'll see. Personally have no faith in them since Skyrim first came out.
>action game
>skill points are limited, even if you do everything, you can only pick a small number of things to become good at, forcing you to specialize (i.e. role-play)
>skill points can be used to increase your strength/health/mana/stamina, learn new spells, unlock new combat moves, etc.
>equipment have prerequisites, and can only be worn if you invest skill points to meet those prerequisites
>a variety of different playstyles like melee (with different weapons having different move sets), archery, magic and stealth
It's more of an RPG than Skyrim.
Cool, now form your own opinion rather then repeating some YouTubers "Bethesda Isn't very good" video
Probably because of Todd. How can someone so small have so much charisma? There's something unnatural about him and it frightens other devs from making 1st person RPGs.
>game is already over after you settled for a style
>RPG
Their monopoly is not based on the perspective, it's based on the option to create your own character. The vast majority of AAA RPGs do not let you create your own character and play it in any way you want.
>game is already over after you settled for a style
? You literally get enough skill points in the tutorial/prologue to settle for a style.
pic related.
Skyrim isnt an RPG
You need time to experiment to settle.
Also the game is completely linear which again is more akin to an action game. Stop being retarded, it's nothing even remotely like a RPG. Assassins Creed games are more RPGs from the criteria you named than Dark Messiah.
>Also the game is completely linear
So that would disqualify almost every game ever made from being an RPG?Considering most RPGs are jrpgs which are for the most part linear.
IT's a linear series of levels, sure, but you can still deal with enemies in different ways depending on your build. That's why it's an RPG.
>You need time to experiment to settle.
You get time to experiment, retard.
>he brings in JRPGs into the talk of first person RPGs
You have exposed yourself, retard. JRPGs are mostly Visual Novels with a bit of shitty combat on the side. Even naming them in this kind of thread is beyond retarded.
