Why have there been like 30 rpgmaker threads today?
And yeah I'm working on one but it sucks fucking ass

Who would be retarded enough to work on RPG Maker this days when Unity exists?

Me

I'm doing a fan translation, if that counts

REMINDER IT'S FUCKING HAPPENING:

TRANSLATORS PREPARE TO DO YOUR JOB!

Translators haven't even done their job for the Wada remake and that's 90% the same. Ever since vgp bailed no one's been able to put anything together it seems.

Yeah it’s about some guy who works as a janitor in a highschool, and he falls in love with a professor and everyday he tries to do new things to get close to her and funny wacky things happen.
I’m working on Vx ace but it’s a fucking pain in the ass, it takes me years to do the mapping AND the game is probably never going to be finished at all, but it’s just funny to work on

They will once you pay up. They ain't no janny, they ain't doing it for free.

I used to work on one. It was a lot of fun dicking around and trying to see what I could do with the engine, but I think if I pick it up again that I'll make it in Unity so I don't keep running into engine limitations and shit.

>vgp bailed
Explain.

I was woking on the demo of MV and was planning on buying it once the trial was over but now I think I will wait for the new one.

Just a porn game , default assets + kiskae dolls.

hard to find vgp's original statement because the tumblr post seems to be gone, but here

apparently there was too much rape and gaysex for vgp's liking. When you tweet her about anything DSP/Wada/Mogeko etc., there is simply no reply.

It's a hentai game with bad ends that aren't just "You die" or "you get raped and we don't tell you what happens after" and a lot of physical transformations.

What I'm making is really nothing more then generic fantasy meets peak final fantasy. I've been playing five nights at fuck boys and it some how got me in the RPG mood.

Meh, figures she'd pussy out.

the vast majority of translations done for RPG Maker 2000 games were free user. If you're a translator for freeware games and demand money you're silly.

what was the peak?

I'd say either between 3-6 or 1-6, 7 was a bit too Diesel punk. 8 and onward look and feel too Japanese for my liking.

rape time

You dropped this

I actually just started learning MV this morning. I know the new maker is coming out this year but I don't want to wait. I played BS2 and got inspired.

there are also tons of rpg maker games that aren't translated at all, many decades old, because nobody commissioned them and no one cared enough to do it for free.
free fan translations happen because the translators are interested in the game and want to translate it. if you, on the other hand, are interested in the game and want to see it translated, you have three options. you can translate it yourself, you can commission it by spending money, or you can wait and hope someone picks it up. there's no guarantee someone will, though.
translation work isn't that hard once you have the requisite knowledge but it still takes some time and effort on its own. that's not to mention the very significant amount of time and effort it takes to learn the language and the less but still significant amount of time and effort it takes to learn to mod rpg maker games. generally speaking, if you just expect work to be done for free for you just because you're interested, you'll probably end up disappointed more often than not. i'm still waiting on fan translations for some of my favorite stuff because i'm too cheap to commission it.

If only I knew japanese, then I could work on translating these games.

Holy shit, how didn't I know about this? Now I'm excited

>initialize an entire 3D engine with shaders, projection matrices, data structures
>so that you can put a 2D plane in front of a camera and render a game as its texture
>with horrible frame skips even on beefy machines, courtesy of Unity
It is just not the tool for the job of making a 2D game.

No, I didn't ;)

I've been working on this for like a day?

I'd really appreciate some feedback. Tilesets etc are placeholder, it's mostly a demo of systems to make sure the stuff I'm working with functions right. Everything notable in the game has an interaction - like, you can interact with most of the scenery etc for flavour text.

Pls gib feedback.

it's not hard to decipher japanese text
read tae kim's guide and learn the particles, that's like an hour for the basics and maybe several more hours for more advanced stuff
learn your hiragana and katakana just for simplicity's sake, there are only like about 50 altogether and they'll get used a lot so it's worth your time to learn them
maybe learn a few extremely common kanji like the ones for numbers and very common words and phrases
for the stuff you don't know, like let's say 運動, throw it into google translate out of context and it'll do a dictionary lookup rather than just try to translate it (see pic)
that can help you suss out what the possibilities are
after that, try it with the immediate context (e.g. any particles), then the entire clause, then the entire sentence. usually between the dictionary lookup and doing those, you'll be able to work out the meaning. if not, it might be an idiom or something less common or a dialect. for those kinds of things, you may need to do a bit of research.
over time you'll start to memorize the meanings of certain kanji just because you've seen them often. you can do anki practice if you want, but it's not necessary if you're just translating games.

also, english wiktionary has a lot of japanese words and phrases explained in english

Why do people still use RPGM when WolfRPG has consistently better games

I was thinking of making some RPGmaker like game, but been thinking to kinda reinvent the wheel since I don't know how much freedom RPGmaker gives, should I go with my plan or just learn RPGmaker? I kinda hesitate since I'm afraid if I spent some time learning RPGmaker then realize I can't do what I want with it

cause RPGM is better documented and has more community support with plugins etc
>when WolfRPG has consistently better games

>WolfRPG has consistently better games
literally the only two wolfrpg games i can think of are mad father and mermaid swamp
