The game has a slow start. I felt exactly the same way a couple weeks ago when I picked it up again after quitting early on. It really does get better. The story starts to really take hold when you get to Vegas. Just keep playing would be my advice. Yes, the game is far from perfect but it's still amazing.

playing through it for first time right now and i like it alot, and i hated fallout 3/dropped it in first couple hours. it is drab but what would you expect from a place destroyed by nukes? i don't think a vivid color palette would fit that well.
