Imagine that you could push a button that would generate an incredible, perfect, mindblowing game every time you pushed it, but after pushing it your consciousness would be trapped in an empty void for 500 million years, unable to sleep or die, with nothing to do but think. After the time is up, your consciousness would return to your body exactly as it was when you pressed the button and all memory of those 500 million years would be completely wiped. Would you push it?

id rather push the button and not forget my void time
yes because in a second where it actually matters ill be rich.
i can already play the last of us 2 without the 500 million year thing though.
Nah nigger. I know how this goes.
Would there be any way to tell that 500 million years is passing? Like a clock, a calendar, heartbeat, a plant growing? Something to measure between two events?
There's literally no reason not to press the button
I already did, it gave me BoTW
The way I see it, what happens when you push the button is that an alternate version of you is instanced in a weird alternate dimension, and waits for 500 million years. Only, you have no way of knowing this, or even to carry info back from that dimension.
So why even worry about it? It could be happening right now, and you wouldn't know.
Although I have to say the reward isn't interesting enough. A free house with all expenses paid forever would be more what I would like.
>implying the perfect game wouldn't last 500 million years
Your mind's not ambitious enough.
>the machine is bugged and can deliver several sentences in a row if you push the button fast enough
shit dev
brainlet
maybe the life you're living right now was instigated by another you for a quick buck, you'll forget everything when you die
would you still say that this life is worthless?
False.
The "you" that is present is the one that has to endure 500 million years of nothingness, and at the end of it, it would cease to exist. "You" would be replaced by a copy of "you"
people who give this answer would regret pushing the button about five minutes in of their 500 million year sentence
>find the nearest homeless guy
>"Yo nigga, my little creepy friend and I are doing a little social experiment. Basically you press this button right here and each time I'll give you a dollar for it. No strings attached."
>cause the Second Gaming Renaissance
yeah and maybe I'm fucking god and you're an ant
nothing is definitive tard
500 million years seems like a ridiculous amount of time and not worth it at all.
no, it's still the same you, you just forget everything in the end
would you allow yourself to be raped by 10 niggers for 5 days straight if you forget it after that (but you still have the knowledge that it happened)?
same thing here
mindblowing and perfect to a homeless man could be any video game
no, what a retarded thread
500 million years of suffering you forget in the blink of an eye.
You would just be dooming yourself or rather a copy of yourself to eternal suffering and would never even know it.

TAKAHASHI MEIJIN STYLE
What if something inanimate hit it and pressed it down? Would it affect the nearest person or the one responsible for throwing it?
It wouldn't work.
I would smash the button 10 times and keep the memories.
>press button
>500 million years of empty existential hell screaming at the void and going insane
>it finally ends
>"huh that must not have been so bad."
>press button again
>rinse and repeat
what kind of fucking idiot would do this over a video game? this isnt even a question
Whats the point in forgetting the 500 gorillion years?? Its like there is no consequence in pressing it
because nobody sanewould press it
Anyone who says they would do it is completely unable to judge the actual magnitude of large numbers and is a midwit.
>would you still say that this life is worthless?
If said life involved waiting 500 million years on gm_flatgrass with nothing to do, then yes, I would say it was worthless. Compare it to the pigs that are born, live, and die in factory farms. Their lives are worthless.
That's not what I mean. When the "me" that endures the 500m years's time is up, it returns to "me", and replaces "me", but everything that happens after I've pressed the button is wiped from its memory, so there's no difference from just saying that i pressed the button and nothing happened from my perspective.
Think of it like this
I want to fuck that turtle
I would if I become an anime girl youtube.com
um actually I could totally survive 500 million years in solitude, just a blink of an eye bro, it's an alternate you bro
You'd go insane and hallucinate stuff within a week anyway and literally none of the time spent inside would matter anyway. I would push the button several times for amazing games, then become filthy rich as an indie game dev.
From "your" perspective, after you push the button, you would have to endure the 500 million years, and after the time is up, you cease to be conscious because your consciousness vanishes.
Your physical body only has a copy of your consciousness, but that isn't actually "you", just a copy of your consciousness.
it would destroy your fucking mind, dolt. solitary confinement in real life prisons makes people lost their shit in MONTHS. you wouldnt even last a year in OPs situation, let alone a period of time we can barely even fathom considering our expected natural lifespan is like 0.0002 as long as that
forgetting the 500 million years is just a way of resetting you afterwards so you can enjoy the fruits of your existential torture and dont come back fucking insane as fuck and start doing crazy shit like making human lampshades and turning people's severed feet into christmas tree ornaments
I can't believe so many retards are okay with pushing the button.
You have no perspective of time at all and how insane this is.
Are you retarded or something? There is no split, no two "yous". Your memory of those years is just wiped and "you" go on if like nothing happened, except now you are up a good game
Functionally, the two are the same. The copy of my consciousness has its memory of the 500 million years wiped and because of that it is the same as a hypothetical version of my consciousness that only pressed the button and did not endure the 500 million years.
So functionally by pressing the button I'm only creating offshoot realities where a version of myself has to endure 500 million years of nothingness.
thats a retarded attempt to overcomplicate OPs scenario. without your dumbfuck headcanon shit, all that happens is exactly like OP describes it: push button, exist in empty void for 500,000,000 years, come back, and forget.
it won't matter to us after the 500,000,000 years end
