Only if you have extreme tolerance for mindless tedium and garbage cliche plots. Even FFII is better.
Probably not. I love it because it's so easy to catch when I generally hate both RPGs and animu games. But I guess for people who do love RPGs it must be what Wii Sports is to sport games.
No, it’s one of the world.
You just walk for hours in bland fields of nothing. The biggest offender is Alcamoth, doing errands there is a torture session, everything is so far apart.
Also, some quests involve swimming around for hours in a huge fucking ocean of nothing.
Fuck this game and fuck any drone defending this. FFXIII’s corridors are far less insulting than looking for a red orb in that lake in Makna falls.
I'm having a good time in it, but I do think there's just a little too much going on. I don't think I understand gems at all.
nope
looking at what are considered to be the 'best' rpgs, games like chrono trigger and ff7, there is a unity of design in them that xenoblade can't come close to. way too many extraneous systems, stats, items etc.
Gems are pretty simple. You get ether crystals and ether cylinders from killing monsters and mining ether deposits. You then go to Colony 9 to the Gem stall to make a gem. Each ether crystal or cylinder that you collect have stats or effects that are associated with them as you can see in the gem crafting menu. To make a gem you need stack crystals and cylinders that have a stat in common with one another. For the best result, stack gems and cylinders until you reach the stack threshold (100%).
Since there are no treasure chests what's the point in doing a bunch of exploration? Do you get rare materials if you go out of your way to look around or something?
Pretty much, yeah.
The only tedium part is the overabundance of fetch quests, which are completely optional anyway.
First of all, you get to see all of the amazing vistas the game has to offer. Furthermore, discovering landmarks and special hidden places gives you experience. art and ability points, also discovering all of them uncovers the entire map so you don't have to go all autistic about it. And while there are no chests in the wild, there's red items and unique monsters to fight in weird places.
Oh, and that too:
>rare materials
You have to look for mining spots to get better crystals.
Meh, I like the second one better tbqh.
There are either:
- Special locations like that waterfall top in Bionis Leg that allow to complete the map of each zone.
- Special chests like the one in Makhna Forest
- Special treasures like those that require the High Entia Emblem to open scattered across several maps, like in Satorl Marsh or Eryth Sea.
- Unique monsters, like those in the Three Sages Mount in Valak Mountain
And hell, even the Tephra Cave has a whole new area opened in the late game full of unique monsters and shit.
Considering this is the same team that helped Nintendo make Breath Of The Wild, XC is far more rewarding with exploration than BOTW and its Korok Seed hunting simulator.
Imagine having such a shit taste:

You can ignore gems for a really long time. Gems are really bad at first, and not worth the hassle of learning how to craft them. They become much more useful near the midpoint, with characters like Dunban really benefiting from having as many agility gems as possible, so you should figure out how it works then. It's not as bad as it seems.
No, even for a JRPG its mediocre. Just admit you play the game for le quirky waifu and move on
Also you can just use Shulk and Reyn for all of them which will reach max affinity really damn soon.
None of the girls can be described as quirky
I played the first one on Wii... to a little while after a certain big metal bad guy stops showing up. I just lost interest, and I'm no a.d.d riddled zoomie.
Halp, Zig Forums. Do I pick this up?
Retard, that's the only reply you deserve.
How long is this game?
It depends on how much side content you want to do. From 70 to well over 100 hours.
Why?
Depends on how many sidequests you do, and if you go after any of the secret skill trees. If you just try and speed-un the game I would say 60-ish hours approx, depending on how good your team set up is
the duality of v
I finished XB DX yesterday and it took me exactly 55 hours to beat the story blind, I’m currently level 80 with plenty to do.
It's not an RPG. It's a JRPG. Common mistake to believe JRPGs are RPGs, but do please keep it in mind that JRPGs are just adventure games with stats, which doesn't make them RPGs.
Okay, that sounds cool. I'm so used to treasure chests being the default reward for doing stuff I was a little disappointed to learn they're not generally found.
Yes. It is the best game of the 2010s and still holds up today. Why can't Western devs make games as good as this?
>It is the best game of the 2010s
Fuck oiff Grandpa
It's definitely up there.
Man imagine the sorry state JRPGs would be in if Nintendo didn't acquire Monolith Soft.
Im hoping that 3 or X-2 has a story as good as 1 with the exploration and mecha stuff from X. Because playing DE is reminding me way too much about the missed opportunity for mechas in it
The sequel is a million times better. But yeah, XC1 is a great proof of concept.
>story
I honestly can't believe anyone over 12 years old can look at a Xenoblade story and take it seriously.
The gameplay and environments are what these games should be played for. I cringe so hard for you guys. It's literally embarrassing to read when someone praises the story. Just hilarious and sad and cringy.
