Can we have a normal paper mario thread that isn't a shit flinging? What did you think of each individual PM Game? Did you skip any? Are you looking forward to TOK? What's your favorite Partner? Boss? Literally anything that isn't shit flinging for fucks sake
A Normal Paper Mario Thread
I've played every PM game, including SS and CS more than once (and somewhat enjoyed them), and I am somewhat looking forward to TOK.
I really miss partner characters with unique designs/personalities because it fleshed out the Mario world, but now everything is brandfied and sterelized unless Koizumi is at the helm like Odyssey because he does what he wants, Miyamoto be damned.
That said, Bow and Koops are my favorite partners from the first 2 PMs, while I liked Tubba Blubba/General Guy and Cortez/Magnus from TTYD.
>64

>SS
No
>CS
Ok at best
i hope one day we'll end The Tousand year Debate.
Have played all Paper Marios sans Sticker Star and loved them all. Looking forward to TOK!
enjoyed the first two, appreciate super on its own merits, really hate the last two game's combat system and can't really bring myself to play them because of it.
TOK's combat looks better but its still rife with bizarre choices like the fucking object bosses and i'm not sure if i plan on giving it a pity play if the combat still serves no purpose
rawk hawk is the best boss in the series.
There is no debate, it's the best game in the series. Modern Nintendo (minus a few key devs) is incapable of producing the same quality, and even if they did the localization team would ruin it.
pm = great
ttyd = very good
spm = shit
ss = shit
cs = shit
tok = shit
I don’t know yet.
It looks like it’ll be a charming little romp, but there needs to be a point to the battle system.
Played SPM when i was a kid and loved it.
Bought Sticker Star still as a kid and hated it very fucking second.
Emulated 64 and had a blast, Jr. Troopa was my favourite character
I'm honestly hyped for OK and hope will be fun just like 64 and SPM. Also had a Wii U but little old me had SS flashback and avoided it.
more like toilet paper mario lmao
An autistic cartoon of two video games shaking hands doesn't make the new Paper Mario look less shit.
i wasn't talking about that. TTYDebate refers to the various Paper Bros getting mad like Sonic fans about wich era was better, if that makes sense.
The battle system looks like ass. Overworld looks ight.
I've been playing through TTYD again on dolphin, it still holds up as not just my favorite PM game but also as one of my favorite games in general.
>What did you think of each Individual PM Game
64 is great and the most replayable
TTYD was fucking amazing, but not meant for multiple playthroughs
SPM was great, i don't hate platformers so it was up my ally.
>Did you skip any
I skipped both SS and CS
>Are you looking forward to TOK
Unironically yes, but im still gonna hold for now, if i can just get confirmation that battles have purpose, then im on board, otherwise ill skip it too. Never had an issue with the themes i just didn't want to play the others for their lack of battle reasoning.
>Partner
Blue Yoshi
>Boss
Tubba Blubba was Kino knowing he was a giant pussy given power
Koizumi is based and I can't wait for him to take over
>Can we have a normal paper mario thread that isn't a shit flinging?
Yes please god I just want to talk about games I like
>What did you think of each individual PM Game?
64 is a childhood classic, the closest there is to a definitive version of the Mario world in my eyes.
TTYD is tied with 64 as my favorite in the series, not like a normal Mario game but that's a big part of what I like about it. While different it was still just 'Mario' enough and felt like a huge expansion of the world. Also felt like something specifically made for people who played the first when it was out.
I don't like Super's gameplay even judged on its own terms as a platformer compared to other Mario platformers, but I liked its story and I do respect the game overall for its unbridled ambition.
>Did you skip any?
Skipped SS.
Played like two hours of CS and stopped cause I was bored the whole time, dunno if that counts as skipping. Not gonna get into why I didn't like it cause this is a shitfling free thread, but I gave it an honest chance.
>Are you looking forward to TOK?
I don't know. I expect it to easily be the best of the 'sticker trilogy' for lack of a better name, but the last two didn't interest me so...eh. Switch is probably gonna be my last Nintendo console so I might get it anyway as a sort of goodbye to the series.
>What's your favorite Partner?
Impossible to say because it changes almost every playthrough, and that really shows how great all the partners are. If I had to pick maybe Bombette, clearing a whole screen of enemies with her strongest blast is so, so satisfying. I don't mind burning through all my FP cause it just feels so good to do.
>Boss?
Hard to say. Maybe Jr Troopa just cause you see a lot of progression from him throughout the game.
This is a longer post than I intended but oh well.
>Can we have a normal paper mario thread that isn't a shit flinging?
No, and starting your thread with an attempt to engender readers towards the new game isn't helpful.
>What did you think of each individual PM Game?
I think the first two are fairly solid but flawed RPGs, the third was a bad platformer with great writing, and the last two are poorly conceived RPGs.
>Did you skip any?
I stopped playing Sticker Star a few hours in and didn't bother with CS, I just ended up watching it.
>Are you looking forward to TOK?
No. They showed enough to prove it's just another tweak to SS instead of a wholly new product like Super.
>What's your favorite Partner?
Parakarry I guess.
>Boss?
Cortez was fun. Blumiere best villain.
>Literally anything that isn't shit flinging for fucks sake
Trying to jump out in front of it won't work.
PM64. Decent but dropped it The worlds didn't really interest me and felt like generic vanilla whahoo mario x generic Rpgs
TTYD, Great Aesthetics and Charm that are still top tier today, yet everything else is mediocre but functional. Where i think TTYD shines over the orignal is how vivid the worlds are, from being a prize fighter, to a noir detective on a luxury train, twilight town (cozy despite horrid backtracking),and treasure island escapades the game really feels like an adventure.
SPM, good, i actually prefered the mediocre platforming to mediocre turn based combat, the aesthetics and charm wern't on par with ttyd, but it had its moments.
Color Splash, Sticker Star, Never played, No desire to play, Looks like trash.
TOK, Indifference, i am probably not the target demo
Koizumi's a cool guy, but I really doubt his climbing the corporate ladder is going to change anything.
Also my favorite partner is Yoshi for over world travel, and vivian for combat.
Don't have a favorite boss
The only Mario RPGs I have played are the Mario & Luigi ones and I think Origami King looks interesting.
Don't get why every thread about it has to have a bunch of schizos and autists screeching about partners, bosses, previous games and whatever
I played the first three and loved them, played Sticker Star and fucking hated it. Can I just skip it and play Color Splash or would I be missing much?
Paper Mario TTYD is top 3 games of all time
Koizumi's a cool guy, and I really believe his climbing the corporate ladder is going to change everything.
Have you not played TTYD?
>What did you think of each game?
I only really played the first two, I rented SPM at some point. I didn't have a 3ds when SS came out, and CS came out late enough in the wii u's lifecycle for me to overlook it.
>favorite partner?
Koops.
>Boss?
I actually really like lord crump.
>are you looking forward to TOK?
Not really, I was considering getting it until all the "defenders" started spamming threads. The game itself looks fine, just not like something I'd get enjoyment out of.
i wish we could get the odyssey species in TOK, would really spice the cast up.
>No, and starting your thread with an attempt to engender readers towards the new game isn't helpful
seems like you're wrong because the thread is going by smoothly
It's all just deflection from the fact that the new game is a slight course correction from the last two (bad) games. It uber-simplifies things by removing MP-analogues and exp in exchange for making coins your singular resource pool. Problem is that this ends up bloating your coin acquisition and ruining game balance since it has to account far more for player error. Previously they made all actions single use items, but now items have durability, which is functionally the same as giving you items in multiples of 5/10. Combine this with boring, simple writing and the game looks kinda trash aside from the artwork.
Adding to this is the art gallery of the previous game showing the devs want to be weird and wacky and creative, but the upper management keeps stomping out their creativity.
yeah fuck good games and fuck established mechanics. who cares. next 3d mario should be a lootbox fps only autists would disagree.
Imagine if they never went back to DK Country and ONLY continued those weird King of Swing games forever.
Imagine if they never even tried classic star fox again but made an ongoing series out of that weird DS strategy game.
Imagine if they made a series out of Banjo Nuts n Bolts but never ever went back to doing 3D platformers.
I'm not calling any of those spinoff games BAD. I am only saying they are extremely different from the originals and it's natural for the old fanbase to feel alienated, because the old IP is being used for what should really be a completely new series.
lootboxes are gay but i would play the fuck out of a mario FPS
Unless you thought Paper Jam was a masterpiece, OK is probably going to disappoint. M&L was better than PM even when they were actual RPGs.
Thanks for asking, OP!
>What do I think of each individual game?
>N64
Second favorite. The definition of classic imo. Probably my favorite N64 game, and more than a worthy successor to Mario RPG. OST is flames, its graphics make it feel very unique even compared to other PM games, and it exudes a story book feel more than any other game I've played. Amazing game.
>TTYD
Third favorite. This one has better partners than the first one, and the chapter settings are not as iconic as N64, but are wildly creative and enjoyable. Overall, an amazing follow up, but I prefer the original's graphics, plot, and specifically focus on Bowser as the villain. Like the original really hooked me with "oh shit. this is what happens when Bowser finally wins." That being said, TTYD does an amazing job at feeling like a true adventure, and the crowd mechanic is fucking awesome. The X Nauts are also some of the best original antagonists in any mario RPG.
>Super
Favorite one in the series. It has the best sound track of the series, I love the premise, and the villains, it has great controls, and I do love the faster pace of combat as a welcomed temporary change to the series. Playing as Peach, Luigi, and Bowser was so much fun, and it has the best story of the series. The thing that sets this one apart truly though are the chapters. It has the most well rounded set of chapters in the series IMO. The bosses were sick, and the settings were all wildly creative and memorable.
>Skipped?
The last 2. Looked like a completely different kind of game that wasn't up my alley.
>Origami King?
Not holding my breath, but looks like it will be the best of the new trilogy. The trend of all NPCs being Toads needs to fucking leave.
>Favorite partner
Lady Bow
>Favorite Boss
Final Boss of N64. So cathartic.
>BONUS ROUND
>Favorite Chapter
Final chapter of N64. I love the end game of that one so much
PK was a masterpiece
M&L was also nothing but mediocrity.
I really do hope he's the one left in charge of the series direction after Miyamoto steps down. He really seems to be on the beat when it comes to understanding what appeals to fans when it comes to the Mario world.
Hopefully the branding side of things isn't going to stay completely out of his hands. Time will tell if the current state is a result of devs like Miyamoto or something enforced by a business/marketing board.
(You)
yup nothing but mario fps from now on, let's thank autismo here for never having a mario platformer again.
>putting M&L crap above PM
(You)
>He says while calling an M&L game a masterpiece
At least put something on the hook.
I only played ttyd and spm, ttyd was pretty fucking great game. But I liked the environments and just overall world of spm not a bad game.
Fixed your image OP, we need to filter out the faggots who force this divide
Well I can see why people would be cautious with Origami King since I've heard the previous games were bad. But you act like the coin stuff can't possibly have been fixed, and that the item durability is bad despite not explaining why. We also haven't seen enough of the writing to actually judge it.
See this is what I mean with schizos
I can understand that yes, but it's been several games now and around a decade. At some point people just have to accept stuff and move on.
I dropped Paper Jam, can't remember why though. But I don't see what that has to do with Origami King
OP here, you guys can talk about Mario and Luigi too, i love both of these franchises to death.
Honestly the reason im okay with *some* of the changes in the new PM games is because M&L taught me to value development over design.
pic related for easily the worst M&L game. The series was so fucking good, and it's sad that it's gone now. Dream Team was also retroactively made way better by how bad paper jam was.
Honestly, Odyssey was such a breath of fresh air to me. The whole thing just felt reinvigorated and punchy again, like Mario was before they started putting in the epic orchestral music and putting white feathered outlines on all of the characters.
