They acknowledge that there's an awful lot of overlap between people stupid enough to buy their game and people stupid enough to get stuck on a puzzle and refund the game. I remember back during that brief time when games would occasionally be released with "director's commentary" (which was cool as fuck; make more!) and listening to the developers on this one game (it was an FPS) try their hardest not to insult gamers but ultimately fail. Basically, they kept having to dumb the puzzles down in their game to the point where they eliminated most of them because the puzzles kept confusing the gamers. That was back in... early 2000s? 2005-6 maybe?
