my first was Sticker Star when I was 10, fuckin' loved it. but after playing TTYD on Dolphin a few years ago, I realized how garbage SS is. (my favorite's TTYD)

first was 64 a while back, played TTYD recently, got like 3 chapters into color splash before quitting because it was extremely fucking boring
TTYD has better combat and music, but I consider 64 to be the better game overall

TTYD was my first, but 64 is actually my favorite. As a predecessor it feels more "vanilla" but there's also less bullshit, and it's less linear too.

I appreciate Super Paper Mario's innovations/story but thought it was too far a departure from the RPG formula that made the last two games. That and while they were certainly more original, all the blocky aliens felt repetitive and really memorable designs felt few and far between.
Sticker Star I could not finish out of sheer boredom, avoided Color Splash hearing it was mostly the same.

TTYD, even though I'd argue 64 was an overall a better game in terms of quality. TTYD was a great sequel though. SPM was a fun side game too.

I can't get into The Thousand-Year Door no matter how hard I try. I guess I just prefer smaller games with less backtracking.

i like super too though, everything afterwards can take a flying shit. series could have died on the wii and nothing of value would have been lost.

They're both so great, but TTYD just does everything 64 does just a little better, except the backtracking obviously which isn't inherently bad anyways. The little improvements and characters and settings and everything make it worth it. But I've only played each once (played 64 for the first time in March and TTYD in April) so maybe the backtracking will feel worse on a second playthrough, but I was surprised to see how hated it was on here. I barely even noticed or minded it

TTYD has segments that outright don't work, they did not fucking playtest the Punis to make sure they worked.
That lack of polish alone should put it under 64. 64 never has a bad segment.
