It's extremely lenient. It's not one of those games where you need to solve the mystery before time runs out, it's just a thematic way of presenting the story. P5 even uses pic related in the loading screens to make you take it easy.

Protip for new Persona players:
having a persona in your set that's the same arcana of a social link will increase your progress to the next rank when you spend time with them
This is shown in the yellow musical notes that appear above their head. During each social link scene you will be given dialogue choices too, and picking the correct choice will often give you even more bonus progress to the next level of that social link.
