I wouldn't say it's based by any margin.
It just consistently gives an okay service with biggest game library while its competitors shit their pants and offer very few games (compared).

no it isn't. GOG is a flop because it creates the problem it tries to solve. "all your games in one location", but if you launch the game it needs to run whatever launcher that game is tied to. And now you have GOG running in addition to that launcher. And I don't need my games in one place, I'm the one who fucking bought them, I know where they are. GOG is fucking stupid and literally only exists so CD can pretend to be bigger than they are

If another platform would've been created at the same moment as Steam, they'd probably be way better. Steam is the 'standard' but to call it good is an overstatement.

But yeah, I get what you mean. I think people forgot a launcher isn't meant to just only launch games. It's for easy patching, installing and maintenance, all shit you need the native launcher to do, so what's the fucking point.
