Is this the best controller for 2D games?

Is the 6 button layout advantageous for anything outside fighting games?

No, but it's not a detriment in any way either, so it's better to have and not need than not have.

I have two of these. So far no complaints. I use 'em primarily for fighting games. Much cheaper than a stick, good sized buttons, nice balanced design.

I prefer the dpad on the saturn controller, but the layout is perfect

never had genesis. did many games require 6 buttons?

It's pretty good, I still preferred the SF x Tekken madcatz pad but mine broke and they don't make them any more.

I got nothing else to say but I own one and agree it is a prime 2D pad. Thanks for reading my blog.

This format for controllers is only really good for fightan games. Not as OG as fightstick setups, but it's honorable at the least.

This looks like a megra drive controller rip off

so, I recently got into fighting games with a friend buying them fightin herds, what is the recommended cheap controller to get for a 4 button fighter?

i tried this for fighting games but trying to tap the face buttons caused soreness and gripping it with my left hand dug into my middle finger and made it really uncomfortable

why do people always cite the Saturn dpad instead of the Genesis dpad which looks exactly the same? Do they feel different?

Are you playing with just your index fingers on the shoulder buttons? I've found that the right way to grip this controller is with index fingers on L1/R1 and middle fingers on L2/R2, anything else feels wrong.

yeah
i personally prefer the boomerang

i think i tried that for a bit but it made me feel less precise with the d-pad

I have one and i don't like how it's just not very ergonomic. It's a great controller, but the lack of proper grip will wear on the fingers supporting the back after a while.

That D-Pad looks mushy

>mushy
The only fags I have ever heard complain about "mushy" D-Pads are retards who unironically think the DS phat and GBASP had the best D-Pads of all time, despite being so stiff and clicky that they were damn near unusable and resembled a flip phone's arrow buttons more than anything.

Genesis emulation

Obviously too stiff is bad too. But if you think being too mushy isn't a bad thing, you clearly haven't dabbled into third-party controllers or chinkshit handhelds. D-Pads are hard to get the perfect balance for, which is why so many suck.

not as mushy as your mom's pussy after I'm done with it

You're right, this is one of the only 3rd-party controllers I've ever owned. The D-Pad is smooth, hard plastic if that answers your question. It feels kind of like a SNES D-Pad but smooth instead of textured, and it moves more freely.

Is the Retro-Bit version good?

I had a Mega Drive as a kid and from what I remember many games just repeated the same buttons. So A and C would do the same thing as well as X and Z. Some games did use all 6 buttons but usually in a way similar to the SNES where you had 4 main buttons and then the L and R were used infrequently in gameplay.

Probably because they prefer the rest of the Saturn controller as well as the d-pad.

Most fighting games did. Other action games usually went Special (A) Action (B) Jump (C) and then used XYZ for something like weapon/skill selection, map, menu or whatever other function you'd otherwise get by combining any two out of ABC.

How is the dpad on the Hyperkin Duke?

They are exactly the same. The Saturn's is just more recent. And it had 2 shoulders rather than just one and the ABCXYZ buttons were better too.

probably shit just like the rest of the controller

handlet

not even people with big hands like it

Retard. The original DS dpad was perfect.

no because its d-pad membrane is terribly weak and goes bad in less just a few months

I haven't touched an OG Duke in a while but I don't remember it being this clicky. Feels like the face buttons on a Steam controller.

Mine's fine shoulders are fucked though.
