It's for all Xbox first party games and 3rd party games. Allows you to get the next gen version for free if you old a last gen copy.

Say you buy CoD 2022 for Xbox, put the disc on Xbox One it runs made for Xbox One, put the same disc on SeXbox you get all the assets and enhancements for next gen.

they are releasing their biggest game of the year in 2 days, tlou2, yet they haven't bothered to inform anyone buying it that they will recieve a free next gen upgrade. why? because it doesn't exist. if it existed, we would know by now because that would be easy marketing, and would also rest any fears from potential customers. same goes for all their other games coming out this year.

no it's not the same. xbox has a support network in place, a program specifically for this to ease the path if any dev chooses it. sony does not and will require more work from the dev.

you ever try to get a refund from sony for a game? you have to go to their website and message their support team and wait, instead of just having an option on the ps4 for each game you can click to request a refund or cancel a preorder. that is the difference here, the ease of it. and how easy a company makes things is a direct reflection of their intentions. refunds are easy because they don't want to give them. next gen upgrades don't have a program because they don't want to do them.

It's all about publisher of game. Some publishers will supoort free upgrade for next gen, some of them not. Smart delivery is not making every fucking game upgraded for next gen. It's same with PS4 》PS5. madden 21 for example,
If you buy game on ps4, you can play on PS5 free with upgraded version. Or tlou2 and ghost of sushi. For example, GTA V next gen edition won't be free for both consoles.

Sony is really fucking up. I'm a primary PC player so I don't really see a reason to own an xbox. I was planning on picking up a PS5 for exclusives, but I'm probably going to skip it and pick one up used in a couple years.

But it's basically only cross gen titles, right? Once xbox one is dead then it's kinda over? Maybe you can register pc version of it somehow, but dunno how it would work. Leave it to microsoft to make everything too complicated
