An obsession with biped designs

Creative bankruptcy
greninja being a huge success with little kids means every future starter is going to follow this trend, hope you enjoy it
Said the bottom pic in an Indian accent.
They realized the starters are usually among the most marketable so they assigned personalities and humanoid "roles" to each one. This had begun lightly in Gen 5 (a samurai otter, a nobleman snake, a martial arts pig) but really got into swing in Gen 6, with each one intended to directly resemble a human's fantasy role (the thief/ninja, the wizard/witch, the knight). This continued into Gen 7 and 8.
This isn't to say that humanoid roles have been absent before this (e.g. Machamp) but these are the direct result of requiring marketability for the most prominent designs of the gen.
The sheer number of stupid designs has made me never want to return to the series. The first 150 were great, the following 1 or 2 batches were relatively ok. But around this point, they clearly ran out of ideas.
We could have received cool, thought-out new pokemon. Instead, i think they started greenlighting whatever they could to meet their arbitrary quotas of “10 more bumblebee-type pokemon” and “50 more (insert type here) elemental lizard pokemon”
You continued to play pokemon past the age of 14
Blaziken is still the best pokemon ever designed and his moveset is beyond godlike

Bound to happen eventually, unfortunately. I don't fault them for it, with them pushing 1000 designs.
They stopped making fantasy animal monsters and started making fantasy animal people
Instead of keeping new pokemon numbers low and fleshing out the gameplay they kept adding more and more pokemon until you get some extremely similar ones and the shittier ones as per the new starters
They should have kept pokemon numbers lower and focused on upgrading the gameplay.
Jokes on you I've jacked off more to the top three than the bottom
But dude what would be the meaning of life after you catch them all
Speed Boost really helps too
Sick
The bottom is objectively better though.
Almost, but I think the bigger issue is that they feel obligated to make the starters into "characters". The early gen starters didn't feel all that different from other pokemon lines and were mostly just strong examples of their typing. But it seems like more and more gamefreak wants the starters now to feel extra special and distinct, more like a single marketable character with a personality and role rather than one member of an entire species. Sad too, because I think Rillaboom and Decidueye both could have been really excellent designs if they had focused on being slightly more beast-like and slightly less focused on their "occupation" or theme.
How?
Aside from Torterra, all the other quadrupeds are shit.
monfernape is actually better than blazeiken without speed boost
furries ruined everything
No
Out of all pokemon to focus on, why Combee
>meme rabbit
>meme lizard
Only decent one is the monkey but the design is fucking barebones, they all have shit detail, this has been an issue since like gen5. The pokemon have basic geometric shapes, like the monkey's grass mane is a bunch of literal triangles kek. Just look at Venusaur's leaf detail and see that none of the new shit compares lmao to a fucking leaf , a fucking LEAF
that incineroar is way too overdesigned to be gen 1
would be a gen 3 or 4 pokemon.
Pokemon GO killed it
>that incineroar is way too overdesigned to be gen 1
Doesn't look much worse than Arcanine
yeah but he looks like shit.
The audience got older
and therefore hornier
>The pokemon have basic geometric shapes
Yeah this really hurts the designs. You can just tell they're all made with "marketable toys" in mind.
this shit all started Lucario
incineroar purrfect, get an original thought.
more like nips and weebs need to get over ninjas already.
but i jerk it to charizard all the time
