Did anyone enjoy this game? It's kinda dead now but it used to be fun.
Did anyone enjoy this game? It's kinda dead now but it used to be fun
Played the fuck out of it, was my first card game I got properly into but boy did Blizzard make every possible worst decision, you'd have to be mentally ill to keep playing and shelling out cash on it these days
It was ok but some cards were absolute cancer.
I'm enjoying Horus Heresy Legions atm and like it much more. It has some rng bullshit too but it's much more varied.
before the cthulu pack it was amazing and awesome
Dr. Boom was cancer and in every single deck.
Played the shit out of it in Beta, Vanilla and most of Naxx. GvG added way too much random shit though and meta deck cancer became super prevalent with everyone running either retarded zoo shit or ramp decks that were unbeatable with the right opening.
I played it for a while because it was the only decent quality game out on phones back in the day but now that Gwent's out there's no reason to play Hearthstone. Gwent's mechanics just feel so much more intricate than Hearthstone's and the art and flavour is so much better, due to being reinvented much more recently. I think with Hearthstone they're scared of reinventing the game lest they lose a chunk of the playerbase like Gwent, but the game just feels archaic to play.
Even though I never spent money on it, it's a sobering reminder as to why one should never spend money on microtransactions for multiplayer video games. One day the game will die and the money spent will be meaningless. I have like 6k hours in dota 2, never bought a single thing, not even a compendium.
I must admit though that currently Gwent is making me feel like spending money on it an awful lot.
It was a nice distraction but there's legitimately no reason to play it anymore now that LoR is out and the best online CCG ever made
Ungoro was peak Hearthstone and year of the mammoth was the best year overall
It all went downhill from there
Standard ranked is all the same shit. Wild is the same shit and its all broken so you die around turn 5. Arena has been completely abandoned. Tavern Brawl is a joke, as are the "singleplayer" adventures.
Only fun mode is battlegrounds and even then Blizzard have squeezed the fun away by putting it behind a paywall.
I don't know how Gwent is these days but I played some in beta and it felt just exhausting. I felt like there was so much counting you need to do that I could only play couple of games and then had to take a break. Maybe I'm just retarded. I do like the idea behind it.
>Ungoro
>with pre nerf quest rogue
Old Gods was peak Hearthstone.
like all blizzard games, closed beta was peak
To anyone still playing Hearthstone: how the fuck do you justify still playing? I came back a few months ago after dropping the game after the Old Gods expansion. I had fun playing at first but within a week I noticed that the newest Dragon cards are so fucking absurdly busted. You can be playing a marginal game but suddenly your opponent plays ONE card that A destroys your board and B fills his board and there's nothing you can do about it. Don't even get me started on the Outlands shit. There is no sense of balance or risk/reward in these cards (what's the skill involved in whether you're holding a Dragon or not? There's no way to counter a dormant minion so what's the point?) and I see nobody complaining about them online. What the actual fuck is wrong with Blizzard?
It was fun until the gnomes vs goblins expansion, then it become a rng fiesta, skill be damned, it didn’t help that the big name streamers joined the cringe style of over exaggerating their reactions and scream like they were on Tv contest show, the final nail in the coffin was Blizzard management, terrible balancing, broken cards weren’t addressed until a year and a half passed, and that was at best, also their chink cocksuckery, taking away the price of a hong kong player for “private” reasons and then trying to do damage control about it.
All in all, this game is the perfect example of how to build a playerbase fast and them blow it away from pure lazyness and greed
I play the auto chess mode. Normal game is shit.
Rotation killed it for me. Also the constant gutting of non braindead decks.
No, it was always an overly simplistic brainlet tier "card game" with a chinese free 2 play microtransaction model.
Just because a bunch of obnoxious cunts on Twitch used to play it doesn't mean it was ever good.
I don't understand. BGs is the most shallow, stale game mode ever. I play one game and I feel like I've had enough for a whole month. Yet, I see there's people who exclusively play it day after day for hours on end and I'm starting to think they have autism
t. uninstalled Hearthstone
got legend few months ago cuz of the of the ladder changes, played on and off since the gvg. was more fun when it was big on twitch.
Yep and quit the very moment they announced the Wild/Standard split and never looked back. A lazy, money-grubbing move in an already expensive game. Fuck Blizzard.
Honestly down to being bored/borderline addiction. I've got nothing else better to do at the moment so I just play it and browse Zig Forums.
I used to, but the game has drifted too far off course to be enjoyable. Once they started making Discover an evergreen keyword they basically made deck construction an irrelevant task of netdecking the best shit and having games come down to who gets their big value generator first and whatever the quality of the cards they got was.
Which wouldn't be such a big fucking deal if the game let you play cards on your opponent's turn, but since this is a game designed by retards for retards, that's not allowed.
This. Why bother balancing the game when you can remove cards.
I played it for around 3 hours and quit due to how simplistic and shitty it was. everyone used to just copy-paste meta decks and play with the exact same shitty cards, no skill involved what-so-ever, just a low enough iq to be willing to invest enough real money to own the cards in question.
Option A: Play for 3 fucking years to unlock the cards that allow you to play competently for free.
Option B: Pay $200+ for a semi-viable deck.
LoR has its problems and control decks are fucking obnoxious bitch shit, but I at least appreciate that it's designed for people with more than two braincells and champions/regions are a more elegant system than classes.
>Which wouldn't be such a big fucking deal if the game let you play cards on your opponent's turn
What are secrets?
Literal coin flip video game that has ruined the online CCG genre with its lazy design that everyone under the sun copied.
I'm glad its dead but we are going to have to deal with the fallout of it ruining online card games probably for the rest of time.
I wanted to keep playing LoR, but I don't really have the atttachment to be committed to it. Maybe after another expansion
I tried it, but if you want to play f2p then start grinding demon hunter for 6 months before you can afford an intetesting deck. Also, whoever came up with the idea of 10 miserable gold for three wins can go fuck himself.
How much money have you spent on it? Does Blizzard have you by the balls?
I'd rather have LoR's obnoxious control decks than Hearthstone's "did Hunter/Warlock/etc. aggro draw lethal this turn or did I win" gameplay.
EVERYONE
It's funny how back in 2014 we had no idea that a mobile card game would be the last Blizzard game with a soul.
0. Really. Never spent a penny on it. I justified my fun by playing off meta meme shit and arena. With BGs I have completely abandoned the normal game and just play that.
But as I said they keep forcing mandatory payments every 3 months and for every mode. BGs it's basically "hey want to do well? Pay us €16 for all 4 heroes to be available for choosing". Which wouldn't seem bad if A. all the heroes were balanced which they certainly are not and B. the choice to pick all 4 was FREE FOR EVERYONE for months and then Blizzard removed it and slapped on this battlepass bullshit.
good idea but it ultimately lacked depth, which they tried to substitute rng in its place
League of explorers was the best expansion ever and imo the true golden age of Hearthstone, after Kobolds it started to go downhill
>discover shit
>good
That and increased randomized effects have ruined it.
base game and the first couple of expansions were alright, even as a f2p player I was able to have like 3-4 competitive decks going but after they started shitting out cards left and right balance went out the window and p2w became a huge problem.
Peak was probably patron warrior and reno handlock for me.
MtG Arena feels ok
No, the golden age of Hearthstone was literally beta and early release days. GvG was a clear indication that Blizzard never had an intention of making a good card game.
I missed this big-brained deck. It's fun counting up to see if you have surprise lethal
Still baffles me how Dr.Boom made it through testing.
discover was a good mechanic until it became way too rng-ish for it's own good, also it wasn't as often or too repetitive as in future expansions or it was something you put in every single card like now
Stopped playing after the Cthulu expansion when I realised I peaked with how much gameplay I could get out of it without spending endless cash on it
Ah yes, balance patron, such a fair card, nothing to p2w here
I just started playing Gwent again on Monday after not touching it since before the first expansion.
I like it better now.
There were more obvious synergies on a basic level back then, which felt cheap and railroaded you into specific builds, and that's still a problem but those strategies are pretty much relegated for people playing in the higher tiers now who have all the cards they need.
Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, I missed the progression system they introduced called Journey which is like the progression system for DbD.
But the reason I got back into it was really because of the recent Witcher and Gwent threads, due to it going on Steam and being on phones (it wasn't last I played), and also because there's a new expansion coming out on June 30th.
I haven't spent any money on it at all and min-maxed for the keg/booster pack currency from following a guide online, so now I have enough currency for 146 kegs/booster packs.
Going to wait for the new expansion to drop and then buy kegs. I pretty much only have the starter and basic cards right now.
Man if you think Dr. Boom was bad, you really haven’t played in a long ass time.
I can’t think of too many decks that would run Boom in standard these days. The power level isn’t high enough anymore
Discover is Blizzard's shitty excuse for mitigating RNG when in fact it means absolutely nothing to anybody with more than 5 brain cells. When picking between 3 cards, a decent player is gonna pick the best card every single time. And what other game "mechanics" like Overkill, Twinspell, Odd/Even, Adapt, Magnetic, Echo, Enrage, Joust, Inspire, or Recruit? Blizzard just throws shit at the wall to see what sticks, Discover is a piece of shit that just happened to be very sticky
Actually he got shat on during reveal season and Trodgor or whatever his name was the hyped legendary by all those streamers. Funny how it turned out later on
GvG was hs first true expansion, sure Naxx was the first expansion ever but it wasn't as big as GvG
>inb4 deathrattle hunter was the biggest mistake they made
Reminder that last expansion released a new class for the first time, and in typical Blizzard fashion it was so far and beyond the best class in the game that at one point, it was number one in Standard, Arena and Wild all at the same time.
I played until Mean Streets of Gadgetzan. That was such a bad expansion.
Oh I'm well aware of the completely insane power spike in cards, even from expansions last rotation. Dr Boom should have been a warning though.
To be fair, this is back when you could sort of get away with playing a 7 mana. There is that much removal and control nowadays even stuff like that 10 mana 12/12 "can't be targeted by spells" shit we had not too long ago would be too slow.
Do you really consider the ability to add up numbers unironically big brained?
You're never gonna believe this, but can you believe that they nerfed this fucking card? It used to be the biggest piece of shit ever but at least it had soul and was great fun, now YEARS AFTER IT"S BEEN UNPLAYABLE IN STANDARD they decide to nerf it to "open up more possibilities with card design". Fuck Hearthstone. Fuck Blizzard
this was actually the peak of hearthstone
skill-intensive combo-control that shitters couldnt play correctly
